McGahee and Jones helping those less fortunate
| | Comments (9)

The budding partnership between the Orioles and Ravens brings me to another blog entry.

This time, it's revisiting Willis McGahee's holiday food drive, which I wrote about earlier, and Adam Jones' involvement in it.

The running back and center fielder met earlier this year when McGahee threw out the ceremonial first pitch before a game at Camden Yards.

They sat in the dugout and talked for about 45 minutes. An instant bond was formed.

Jones is offering his financial support for McGahee's foundation, and it's badly needed now with Thanksgiving approaching.

I'm told that 42 more families have been added to the waiting list.

It's heartbreaking to hear tales of people in a finanicial crisis choosing not to go to the dentist so they can afford groceries, or cutting their blood pressure medicine in half to make it last longer.

Anyone interested in helping put food on their tables can drop off non-perishable items at the locations listed below. You can also drop off or mail gift cards for local grocery stores, and the foundation will take care of the rest; or you can send a check payable to The Willis McGahee Foundation.

Mail checks or gift cards to: The Willis McGahee Foundation, c/o Deb Poquette, 1300 St. Michael's Rd., Mt. Airy, Md. 21771

Here are the drop-off locations:

Station House Ledo Pizza
11845 Route 216
Fulton, Md. 20759
301-776-5336

Ledo Pizza
8480 Baltimore National Pike
Ellicott City, Md. 21043
410-750-7087

Ledo Pizza
2657 Annapolis Rd
Hanover, Md. 21076
410-551-0220

If you can't get to one of these locations, you can send an e-mail to deb@tccse.com or call 410-340-3569, and someone will pick up your donation.

(This information also can be found at anitamarks.com)

Shameless plug alert: I'll be appearing on MASN's Playmakers today, with Tom Davis filling in for Amber Theoharis. We'll be talking Orioles, Ravens and anything else that might interest you.

As far as I know, the Ravens haven't changed their uniforms. They might want to copy the Cleveland Browns' look for one game. That's the only team to beat the Giants this season.

The Giants are averaging a league-best 168.9 rushing yards a game. The Ravens take great pride in stuffing every team's running game. Something's gotta give.

I'm really starting to like all this bonding between the Ravens and the Orioles. That's the way it should be. They've been neighbors for a long time so why not be best buds. It's starting to bring the Baltimore Fan Base from each sport together. Maybe it will bring more fans to Camden Yards next season. Anyways, just a few things:

1. There was a lot of creepy man love on Markakis in an earlier post. Would have been fine if they were women, but judging by the names, they sounded like men? He's hot, no doubt, but come on guys.

2. The jerseys look great. Sure orange and grey are not the greatest combo, but at least Angelos is cooperating on the little things. If only he could see the big picture.

3. I really really really really hope they sign both Markakis and Roberts. Sure you all say Roberts is not worth the hassle anymore but deep down you know he is the s**t and you are just jealous of his super star skills and the fact that he is really really ridiculously good looking (sorry for the zoolander reference).

How come you have to go back to the main archives page to scroll to the next blog entry? Why can't you just go from blog entry to blog entry directly? You know, like you could on the Roch around the Clock blog?

You got a L-O-N-G way to go to be able to fill in for Amber, my friend!

Let's hope Mr Jones doesn't follow in every footstep of McGahee's prolific life.

cubs just let woods go...any chance the o's look into signing him? maybe look into him as a starter again? i know the injuries are always a concern but we need to take some risks to see what happens. would be a good influence on the staff as well.

It needs to be said that Ledo Pizza is delicious. Another reason to donate, you can get dinner while you are there!

Also the Yanks just traded for Nick Swisher, possibly to play first base for them next year. Those fans dreaming of Tex in those new Baltimore Greys should be (somewhat) pleased.

Jennifer,

I am a man and I like women(only). But i still think Markakis is more, uh.., you know, manly/good looking than Roberts. Just a thought.

Dear Willis-
It's really nice to see you've continued your charitable ways. You did so much for us in Buffalo. Oh wait...

I love your blog Roch. It's my favorite place to come for Orioles news. I hope this will be a good offseason.

Hey Roch,
Got a question with all the Texiera craziness. While parties are behind scenes trying to negotiate, are the Orioles making any attempts to court Tex? I mean, do they try to get others involves, ala, Roberts, Ripken, etc., wine and dine him (as suggested last week to be going to the Ravens game)? Or is it just negotiating between the interested parties?
Thanks, I enjoyed todays show. I have to admit, too much time spent on NFL (ravens). I wish they spent more time on the Orioles
