Morning with Manny (updated)
Did anyone catch ESPN's Outside the Lines earlier today?
They aired an interesting segment on outfielder Manny Ramirez, providing new information on how the Red Sox were going to suspend him on July 25 for refusing to play. They gave him a letter detailing their plans, but Ramirez informed club officials that he was ready to return to the lineup after an MRI on both knees didn't reveal any damage.
Ramirez had both knees examined because he couldn't remember which one hurt, according to the report. Just Manny being Manny.
It was easy to question the Red Sox's wisdom in trading Ramirez and removing one of baseball's most dangerous bats from their lineup, but he clearly had worn out his welcome. It was time for him to go.
The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo predicted that Ramirez will re-sign with the Dodgers, beating out the Yankees and Mets. He also mentioned the Phillies as having possible interest, but figured that Ramirez would accept an offer in the three-year, $84 million range.
The Orioles weren't mentioned as possible suitors. And that's because they have no interest in Ramirez, and he has no interest in them. It's a convenient arrangement.
I'm taking the Ravens today +6 ½, but that might have more to do with my rooting interest, which I try to keep tucked away on Sundays.
I know it's asking a lot for them to win AGAIN on the road, against the defending Super Bowl champions, with their secondary still in tatters and Derrick Mason trying to play with a separated shoulder. They might be able to nullify the Giants' No. 1-ranked rushing attack, but what about the big-play receivers?
The Ravens need to apply serious pressure to Eli Manning and control the ball with their own vaunted ground game. And if they lose by fewer than 6 ½ points, I can live with that. But I'm hoping for a win.
And finally: For those of you who were caught up in last week's rumor that Anita Marks was leaving the local airwaves, this story might clear things up - along with the fact that she continued to show up each day for the retooled Scott Garceau/Anita Marks Show on 105.7 FM and MASN.
(Try to ignore the typos. The copy desk must have been on strike, or an extended Happy Hour).
I was sitting next to Marks in one of the studios at CBS Radio the day a report surfaced on dcrtv.com that she was let go. We were minutes away from beginning the show.
The site now is running the following item:
CBS To Rumormongerers: Anita Marks Staying At 105.7 - 11/12 - UPDATED. CBS is shooting down rumors that Anita Marks may soon be gone from new sports talker, WJZ-FM, 105.7 in Baltimore. She has been co-hosting the afternoon show with Scott Garceau, and, before that, had been solo-hosting the afternoon show on CBS's old sports talk ESPN 1300, now WJZ-AM. Several sources tell us that she'll be gone in December when her contract expires. There have been rumors that she and former ABC2 sports anchor Garceau don't get along. However, CBS Radio/Baltimore honcho Dave Labrozzi says it ain't so. He tells DCRTV: "Anita is (currently) in her office preparing for her show with Scott Garceau. There is no truth to the story and it should be noted on your site that Anita is enjoying working with Scott Garceau on the 'New Sports Radio 105-7, The Fan.' It is amazing how much interest Anita garners. Scott and Anita are enjoying the show and are excited about '105-7, The Fan'"
Anyway, that's where things stand at the moment.
Marks' contract is up at the end of the year, and I have no idea whether she's staying or going. Each day has brought more rumors and speculation since she first arrived here. It's amazing that she's lasted this long, given how many people have insisted that "the word on the street" is she's a goner.
What a neighborhood! If I lived on that street, I'd build a privacy fence around my house and peek out my curtains before answering the door.

Hey Roch, don't you think the Anita Marks rumors are related to her being, uh, you know, demoted?
Roch, i never was a fan of anita not because of her ability to host a sports show, but because she left herself vulnerable by all the sexually explicit remarks that she constantly made on her show. Maybe she didn't realize what she was doing , . I am not a prude by any means, but there isn't any room in a sports talk show for some of her remarks. I am not the only person that has made that comment about her.
Like the new design. NOW it's easier to get from one entry to another than it was, and it looks good.
By the way, I don't think I need to add much to what I've expressed about Anita in the past.
How did Manny get his batting helmet to look like it has been through the wars after such a short stay with the Dodgers?
See her on TV now and then, never did get any appealing vibes from her info or broadcasting style, and think the show is better with Garceau added. So, like, other than her fairly telegenic appearance, why was she hired?
The Powers that be with 1300AM, 105.7, WJZ, whoever cannot let the best thing that has happened to Baltimore Radio in a long time walk away.
Roch
Any thing happening with Nick Markakis... And is 20 pt. Considered 3 TD. At least we didn't give a 100 yd. Rusher only 96.
Roch,
Is there anything going on with Nick Markakis?...and at least the ravens didn't let a 100 yd. rusher but it was close because Bradshaw was 4 yds shy...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The two sides are talking about a contract extension, but they're not close yet. And I was thinking the same thing about the 100-yard rusher. The Ravens can still brag about not allowing one, but it's going to ring a little more hollow now. - Roch
Jay: the demotion was big but also the corporate ESPN put her here, it wasn't JFK's choice. There is ZERO chance they re-sign her. Mark it down. Scott will be the permanent replacement when her contract is up. Roch is going to have to upgrade to Amber as his new "lady friend".
Anita Marks is the worst thing to happen to Baltimore sports in some time. She's clearly uncomfortable on the air, and has ZERO knowledge of Baltimore sports history. I find her "comments" annoying and insulting.
Sure the 'Manny being Manny' show had worn thin in Boston, but make no mistake, management bears some of the responsibility by letting him get away with pretty much whatever he wanted to there for years. This scenario is like permissive parents who act astonished when their pampered brat turns out to be a delinquent.
Amber is an upgrade? She more annoying.
Me english is bad. I meant to say she IS more annoying.
on a positive anita-note... her hair looked way better after becoming acquainted with a flat iron the other day. i totally didn't recognize her and almost asked when (and WHY) amber got extensions.
totally irrelevant and pointless, i know, but even though she is one of my least favorite women to listen "talk about baseball" (in quotes because she doesn't really talk about baseball the sport, per se, but random asinine things like millar in a thong... please... help... my... burning... retinas), i can't stand to see anyone not named "ramon" have entire threads dedicated to bashing them.
More bad news for Anita: JFK loses to WNST in ratings for the first time ever.

Wow, nice story about the Marks thing. I can't really believe something that is written like that. I can forgive spelling. I can't forgive the lack of coherent thought.
Scott Garceau is as interesting as watching paint dry. He belongs doing high school football games on AM radio. Who's brother in law is he anyway? Bad move forcing Anita Marks' out. I have stopped watching.
