Orioles could lose member of front office (updated)
| | Comments (5)

Word out of Philadelphia is that Scott Proefrock, the Orioles' director of baseball administration, is a finalist for an assistant GM position with the Phillies. (They already have two).

Jim Duquette, former vice president of baseball operations, also is in the running, along with former Reds GM Wayne Krivsky and former Royals assistant GM Muzzy Jackson.

Update: I'm hearing that Proefrock appears to be the choice, with an announcement perhaps coming tomorrow. We'll see.

Sam Perlozzo still doesn't know whether he'll be the third base coach or the bench coach. My guess is third base coach, since the Phillies reportedly are set to interview Jim Tracy and Terry Collins for the other coaching vacancy.

If you're a member of the Ravens defense, are you still bragging about not allowing a 100-yard rusher in 29 straight games? Or do you quickly change the subject if someone brings it up?

The Giants ran for 207 yards today, including 96 by Ahmad Bradshaw on only nine carries.

Bradshaw either is "wind" or "fire." I know he's not "earth." That's Brandon Jacobs, who gained 70 of his 73 yards during the pre-game stretch.

I just checked with a Jersey friend who confirmed that Bradshaw is "fire." I'm not even sure what that means. He's hot? He spreads under windy conditions? You need insurance against him if you live in Northern California? Help me out here.

It's a dumb nickname for all three backs. They need to come up with something else. I had plenty of suggestions while my Ravens pick was being shredded like a pair of $70 jeans.

I don't usually cover high school sports in this blog, but Liberty's boys soccer coach, Ed DeVincent, works out at my gym in Eldersburg (Triangle Fitness) and, unfortunately, his team lost to James M. Bennett on penalty kicks Saturday afternoon in the 2A state final.

DeVincent, the school's athletic director, was coaching his last game after 13 seasons. He compiled a 156-46-13 record, making him more deserving of a nickname than Ahmad Bradshaw.

Since you brought soocer up, maybe you should also mention that Liberty won the 2A state volleyball title with a sweep of two-time defending state champion Rising Sun Friday night at the University of Maryland's Ritchie Coliseum.

You just did! Thanks. (How long before somebody brings up Century's undefeated football team?) - Roch

What about some love for South Carroll's Volleyball, Almost defending Champs again, and cross country's State Champ Jake Zamostny.

Roch - why would the Ravens wait so long to get their passing game going? Why is the team going easy on Flacco's arm? I don't understand what the Ravens strategy with Flacco is.

How about they call themselves 'Rock, Paper, Scissors'.
