Orioles Sign Hennessey and Murphy
The Orioles today announced that they have signed RHP BRAD HENNESSEY and INF DONNIE MURPHY to minor league contracts for 2009 and have invited both players to their major league spring training camp as non-roster invitees.
Hennessey, 28, has appeared in 148 games for San Francisco over the last five seasons, going 17-23 with a 4.69 ERA (360.2IP, 188ER). He pitched in 17 games for the Giants in 2008, going 1-2 with a 7.83 ERA (40.1IP, 35ER). With Triple-A Fresno, he was 7-10 with a 4.83 ERA (132.1IP, 71ER) in 21 starts. In his 44 career Major League starts, Hennessey is 11-15 with a 4.72 ERA (234.1IP, 123ER).
Murphy, 25, has appeared in 221 Major League games with Kansas City and Oakland since 2004. In 46 games with Oakland in 2008, Murphy batted .184 (19-103) with three home runs and 13 RBI. Murphy also spent time with Triple-A Sacramento, where he batted .270 (38-141) with 11 home runs and 27 RBI in 36 games. In his four-year Major League career, Murphy has started 39 games at shortstop, 37 at second base and 18 at third base.
