This week in college football
Top-tier college football didn't disappoint this Saturday. Three upsets in the ACC, close games in the SEC, rivalries at risk in the Big Ten and Big East and the continued competition in the Pac-10 at the top of the league.

ACC: Scoreboard | Standings
Georgia Tech and Virginia each had the week off. Thursday night brought a Coastal Division showdown between old rivals Virginia Tech and Miami in a game in which the Hurricanes prevailed, 16-14. The early game on Saturday featured an overmatched Duke team get blown out by Clemson, 31-7. Wake Forest was upset in Raleigh by a feisty NC State team, 21-17. Maryland kicked a field goal with a little more than a minute and a half left and edged No. 17 North Carolina, 17-15. Boston College upset No. 20 Florida State in Tallahassee, 27-17.
Big East: Scoreboard | Standings
No. 21 Pittsburgh and West Virginia each had a bye this week in Big East play. Friday night, No. 22 Cincinnati won the Keg of Nails for the first time since 2002, with their 28-20 victory over Louisville. Rutgers continued its renaissance with a 49-16 thrashing of the South Florida Bulls in Tampa. Connecticut did what was expected of them and beat Syracuse, 39-14.
Big Ten: Scoreboard | Standings
No. 18 Michigan State was idle, preparing for their game next week against No. 7 Penn State. Iowa continued its momentum with a 22-17 win over the Purdue Boilermakers. Michigan is suffering through its worst season in their 129 year history and Northwestern was happy to keep it going with a 21-14 win. No. 7 Penn State bounced back from their only loss with a 34-7 demolition of Indiana. No. 10 Ohio State kept its Rose Bowl hopes alive and won back the Illibuck trophy with their 30-20 victory of the Fighting Illini of Illinois. Wisconsin kept Paul Bunyan's axe from Minnesota with a 35-32 thriller.
Big 12: Scoreboard | Standings
No. 2 Texas Tech and No. 5 Oklahoma were off this week in preparation for their clash in Norman, OK next Saturday. No. 4 Texas rolled over Kansas, 35-7. Nebraska doubled up Kansas State in the Little Apple, 56-28. Baylor earned a surprising win over the Texas A&M Aggies, 41-21. No. 12 Missouri kept the Iowa State Cyclones losing ways in tact, cruising past them, 52-20. No. 11 Oklahoma State squared off with Colorado and the Cowboys defeated the Buffaloes, 30-17.
Pac-10: Scoreboard | Standings
No. 23 Oregon State, still playing for a possible Rose Bowl berth, kept up its winning ways, beating California, 34-21. Arizona State shut out a miserable Washington State team, 31-0. Oregon outscored Arizona for their win, 55-45. No. 6 USC got even for their lone defeat last season with a 45-23 defeat of Stanford. UCLA romped over a terrible Washington Huskies team, 27-7.
SEC: Scoreboard | Standings
Tennessee and Arkansas enjoyed a week off from the rough and tumble SEC. No. 13 Georgia scored a late touchdown to edge struggling Auburn, 17-13. Mississippi dismantled Louisiana-Monroe 59-0. No. 3 Florida proved its strength, beating its old coach Steve Spurrier, and his new team, No. 24 South Carolina, 56-6. No. 1 Alabama struggled, but stayed undefeated and beat nemesis Mississippi State, 32-7. Vanderbilt edged Kentucky by a touchdown, 31-24. No. 19 LSU trailed Troy 31-3 before scoring 37 unanswered points for a 40-31 win.

Tuesday night, No. 14 Ball State stayed in the BCS race with a 31-16 victory over Miami (OH). No. 8 Utah stayed in the BCS chase with a 63-14 destruction of San Diego State. No. 9 Boise State beat intrastate rival Idaho 45-10. The No. 16 BYU Cougars beat Air Force by two touchdowns, 38-24. No. 25 Tulsa got ripped by Houston, 70-30. Notre Dame renewed its dominance over Navy with a 27-21 victory.
