Talking with the agent for Kawakami and Zaun

The agent for Japanese pitcher Kenshin Kawakami characterized his meeting with the Orioles yesterday as "very productive" and expects talks with the club to continue soon about his client.
"We had a very productive meeting with the Orioles," Dan Evans said. "It's clear the Orioles are trying to get into the international market. I expect to have more conversations with the Orioles. But we are going to take our time and not rush this process."
Evans said his firm has only been Kawakami's agent for three weeks.
He said he has touched base with half of the Major-League clubs to see if they have interest in Kawakami and will contact the other clubs as well.
He would not say if any other teams had serious interest in the 33-year-old righty.

Evans is also the agent for former O's catcher Gregg Zaun and said they discussed Zaun in yesterday's meeting as well.
He said the thought of becoming an Oriole again interests Zaun.
"Of course he is considering the Orioles. That's a great baseball city. But there are a number of clubs showing interest in Gregg right now."
Evans certainly knows about contract negotiations. He spent most of his baseball life working in the front offices for the Dodgers, White Sox, Cubs and Mariners. Evans was Dodgers GM, succeeding Kevin Malone, from 2001-2004.
