MASN Partners with DC50 to Simulcast Nationals Games Over-the-Air in 2009
|

MASN on DC50 makes Nationals games and Nats Xtra pregame and postgame shows available throughout Washington, D.C. area on broadcast and cable

WDCW, over-the-air home of Wizards basketball,
Redskins Weekly, to air 20 live Nationals games

MASN, the local leader in live sports entertainment, has partnered with WDCW-TV, DC50, in a multi-year agreement to simulcast 20 Nationals games on the over-the-air broadcast network each season. Nats Xtra, MASN's exclusive pre and post game show, will also air on DC50 immediately before and after each game, allowing for a seamless simulcast of the entire MASN production.

DC50's MASN simulcast schedule will feature some of the best Sunday afternoon games of the season.

The new agreement will make it even easier for fans to find Nationals games on television. The over-the-air games will no longer be televised exclusively by MASN's broadcast partner in the Washington, D.C. market, but will be carried on MASN or MASN2 throughout the Washington DMA and MASN's entire seven-state coverage area.

"As we enter the 2009 season, the Washington Nationals will enjoy greater television exposure throughout the region because of MASN's new partnership with DC50," said Nationals president Stan Kasten. "The branding and marketing opportunities with DC50 make this deal a home run for the Nationals and our fans."

WDCW and MASN will also team up to promote the Washington Nationals and MASN on DC50 broadcasts throughout the region. The partnership will provide increased advertising and promotional benefits for the Nationals, including cable and broadcast television spots, as well as a robust marketing package that includes radio, outdoor, and online advertising as well as events and other promotions.

"We are excited to partner with MASN to broadcast 20 Nationals games throughout the upcoming season. We look forward to bringing Nationals Baseball to our viewers," said DC50's Vice President and General Manager Eric Meyrowitz.

"The teaming of DC50 with Nationals baseball is particularly exciting because they both represent, in the Greater Washington DC community, what is new, fresh, exciting and vibrant. It is a perfect partnership," said Rich Graziano, Senior Vice President of Tribune Broadcasting. "We're looking forward to growing with them and being a part of this new tradition in Washington."

DC50, which launched as an independent station in 1986, has an affiliation with "The CW." The network has a strong lineup of Washington sports, that includes over-the-air broadcasts of Washington Wizards games, the popular Redskins Weekly, and the Virginia High School Basketball Championships. DC50's programming lineup also features popular network programming including America's Next Top Model, Family Guy, Friends, Two and a Half Men, Gossip Girl and 90210.

"This agreement will bring more and better distribution for Nationals games, more marketing and promotion for the team, and more direct spending on behalf of the club in the Washington region. Our goal is to create even more awareness about the Nationals and their telecasts, and we believe this partnership and MASN's additional investments will benefit the Nationals and their fans," said MASN spokesman Todd Webster.

With every available Nationals and Orioles game, an All-Star talent team, and pre and post game shows before and after every game, MASN is the television home of both the Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles. The network carries more than 600 live sporting events every year including more than 300 NCAA football and basketball games.
