Pitcher John Parrish will return to Baltimore and likely undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder to determine the cause of his soreness.

Danys Baez was throwing 92-93 mph yesterday, but manager Dave Trembley needs to see improvement in the secondary pitches, including the breaking ball. Baez didn't throw any splitters. That'll have to change.

"If you're going to be a starter," Trembley said, "you've got to be more than a one-pitch guy."

Trembley also noted that tomorrow's start is a big one for Hayden Penn.

"He needs to pitch and pitch well and go deep in the game and do a nice job," Trembley said.

Brad Hennessey will begin the season on the disabled list, but he's getting close to throwing off a mound.

Trembley said Mark Hendrickson and Brian Bass are "basically long men." He also wants to limit Albers to two innings in each relief appearance "and see if I can keep hiim healthy."

Roch - are you sure you didn't pick up that quote from your notes of last August or September? - it seems like that requirement has been around for ages.

Any update on how Koji is today after his bullpen session yesterday Roch?

He's still scheduled to throw BP tomorrow, so he's OK. - Roch

Roch - "Albers needs to be starter to protect his arm" - see how funny that looks in reality!! That thought was not quite as ridiculous as thinking Baez giving up a run an inning is pointing him to the rotation. Baez has shown where he should be this year - next to Gibbons!

This is the best news I've seen for a while Bass and hendrickson long men and Baez needing more pitches to start. These guys belong in the bullpen.

Sounds like Parrish may out for quite a while..Baez sounds like he is not really impressing the O's brass much...to me he never really has been that good of a pitcher. Hennessey out pick to sitck is at least going to get achance to go on the DL and get better and maybe contribute later...Hendrickson and Bass...well I guess that tell you what the O's think of them no matter what any of us or anyone says..relievers...the starters are few and far between now..scary thought.
