Angry at the balk call
To say the least, Jamie Walker was quite mad about the balk call against him in the seventh inning tonight.
"No way in hell did I balk on that pitch. It was a horse (expletive) call. I don't know if the guy (umpire Angel Hernandez) has something against me or what. No way in hell did I balk. It changes the whole damn game. It's unacceptable at this level."
Walker was asked about the plate umpire making the call as opposed to the first base umpire.
"I don't know whose call it is, but the runner obviously thought he was out, he was running off the field. I thought he was out and the only explanation I got was I stepped toward home and that's a horse (expletive) explanation."
Walker said the call had a big impact on the game.
"It was a one-run game and that's the second out. I gave up a rocket ship to center field and we threw the guy out. We pick the guy off, that's two outs. I got two strikes on Abreu and struck him out. It's still a one-run game if you look at it that way.
"I don't know if he had money betting on the game or what, but it's a horse (expletive) call."

What are the odds in Vegas that he was betting on the game?
On a serious note, isn't Angel Hernandez known for being confrontational and stirring up a little controversy? His name seems to come up more than an umpires name should. Has he ever been on crew with Mike Winters or do they try to spread the bad umps around?
I recall there was some incident with Angel and the Red Sox a couple years back. I am sure if we ask Gary Thorne he'd remember. He's the only Red Sox fan I know... or listen to.

I really don't know if Angel has been in incidents before. I know tonight the O's were quite unhappy with him. - Steve
I feel for Walker on that one. I believe it was a bad call. Heck, I think the balk call is too subjective to begin with. It reminds me of a charge call in basketball (Duke flop was so aggravating all those years for us Terp fans). I hate those type of calls because there is no consistency in how they are applied and one always feels cheated when he or she comes out on the short end.
Beyond the call, Ray needs to get the out in that situation. He cannot give up that hit. I realize he is coming off an injury, but we only needed one out from him to kee us in the game. As to Eaton, well he gave us about what you can expect from him. Every now and then he will give you a quality start, but for the most part his past says four or six runs will be given up each time out.
Maybe tomorow we can get a win. Hopefully Koji can come up big. This team needs a win soon (losing 5 of the last 6 games at home has been tough) or I think it may start to get out of hand early this season.

This team does need a win right now, Keith. Plus they need to start chipping into that team ERA of 6.00, someway, somehow. - Steve
Steve,
Was Walker one pi$$ed off guy last night or what......not to mention DT. My son (10 years old who is a pitcher) and I were watching the game together, when Angel made the call he immediately jumped up and said a few words a 10 year old should not say. What a crap call.
Forgive me Steve if I am behind on the blog, but what's the latest news on Matt "da man". How's the hammy coming along?

He missed six days, then returned to the Norfolk lineup last Thursday. In the five games since his return he is 4 for 17 with 3 RBI. In 12 games on the year, he is batting .268-1-4. - Steve
