CC Sabathia improved to 2-3, 3.94 with his complete-game, four-hitter. All four hits he allowed were singles, two in the first and two in the ninth. The O's went 4 for 30 at bat vs. Sabathia.

He improves to 6-1, 2.67 in his career vs. Baltimore. On opening day, he gave up six runs and eight hits vs. the Orioles in just 4 1/3 innings.

This was his 11th career shutout, he had five last season. It was his 28th career complete game, he had 10 between Cleveland and Milwaukee in 2008. He threw 112 pitches, 79 for strikes.

In his three previous starts, he had pitched to an ERA of 5.91.

Jeremy Guthrie falls to 2-3, 4.97. This was his third quality start of the year and he posted a season-high eight strikeouts. He had fanned a total of nine over his last three starts. He gave up a home run for the 6th time in seven starts.

A-Rod's three-run homer in the first was his 48th career vs. the Orioles. It traveled 374-feet to left center and was the first homer this year by a Yankees third baseman.

The O's were held to four hits, that ties the season low, set May 5th vs. Tampa.

Brian Roberts was 2 for 3 with a walk, snapping a 6 for 41 stretch. It's his 11th multi-hit game. Melvin Mora was 0 for 4 and is now 4 for 32. Nick Markakis was 0 for 4 and is 2 for 14 his last four games.

Cesar Izturis had a single in the 9th and is 4 for 11 during a four-game hit streak.

Mark Teixeira went 0 for 3 with three strikeouts and a walk. He is 3 for 17 this year with 2 RBI vs. Baltimore pitching. He is now hitting .192 on the season.

The O's fall to 12-18 overall, 9-9 at home, 5-11 vs. the AL East and 1-14 when they score four runs or less. The Birds have lost 10 of 14 and 16 of the past 22 games. They are 2-2 vs. New York this year.

Steve- I don't know if I am jumping the gun on todays post, but, the wire is saying that Weiters, Riemold, and Tillman will be with the big club by June 1st. Is that what you are hearing as well?
I wish we could see them sooner, but, I can live with that.
I still think Weiters will win ROY based on the hype alone. That and I think that he will get hot as soon as he gets here.
Did you see that every team in the AL East is in the MLB top 10 in offense.
Thats crazy. All 5 teams. The best part about that is, the O's don't even have their best 9 on the field yet!!!
Where do you see Weiters hitting when he gets here? Or does it depend on the matchups. I see him hitting 5th against righties, 6th at first against lefties, eventually hitting 4th. Riemold will hit 8th until he shows his power. Then 6th. This is gonna be a fun summer for offense.

Wow, Ryan, do you have a link to that story? I have not heard anything about a June first date for those callups.

I don't expect them to hit Reimold as low as 8th, but they won't just put him in the middle of the order either. Maybe 6th or 7th for those guys when they first get here. - Steve

Steve- The story is right on mlb blog. They say june first is the usual call up date. They point out Price and others, but, since the O's are so loaded....
I foresaw 6th for Reimold too. But I am confident that he has 30+ HR MLB power, so it won't be long to the 3,4,5 looks like Markakis Reimold Weiters. THrow in Jones and Roberts and I start to Drool!!!!

OK, then it's just random speculation. No one with the club has made any pronouncements about time of callups. Plus I don't see them bringing up three at one time. But at least now, Reimold and to a lesser degree Wieters, are starting to force their way onto the roster. That's what you want your top prospects to do.

Steve, Interesting stuff here from Ryan. My question is: What happens with Reimold if Lou Montanez goes on a tear? I guess that depends on how the Felix Pie experiment is shaking out. I guess we can factor in possible trades as well. If Aubrey Huff gets hot, perhaps Andy MacPhail reels in another batch of prospects. Ty Wigginton could play first for now (or Oscar Salazar), but do you know if either Lou or Nolan eventually could handle that position? The prospect of both of them being productive along with Wieters and the core of hitters already on the Orioles is pretty exciting!

Ryan, Next time you find a link of interest, could you please cut and past it into your comments? It really makes it easier to find. Thanks!

I just asked another reporter that same question, Ken. What happens to Reimold if Lou goes on a tear? Not sure of the answer to that one. But I am expecting Lou to get the bulk of the LF starts for now. If he's hitting .300 in three weeks, can you sit him and move Reimold in? I'm not so sure they would want to do that. If Lou gets hot., he could really complicate some things - in a a good way. It's never a bad thing to have a player playing well.

By the way, they won't be moving Reimold to first base. He is a solid defensive outfielder and why take a good defender in one spot and play him somewhere he has never played? Don't expect that to happen. - Steve
