A third signing and some cuts
Jason Phillips is the latest in the Class of 2009 to sign with the Ravens, agreeing to a three-year deal.
Phillips, a fifth-round pick out of TCU, was limited throughout all of Baltimore's offseason minicamps because of a knee injury, so we haven't seen much out of him so far. When healthy, he will provide depth at middle linebacker and give the Ravens help on special teams as well.
The 23-year-old is the son of a coach and the Ravens loved his knowledge of the game coming into this year's Draft.
His signing comes shortly after running back Cedric Peerman signed his rookie contract and it now means the Ravens have already inked half of their drafted players. Their top three picks, Michael Oher, Paul Kruger and Lardarius Webb are still without contracts.
On a separate note, the Ravens announced they have released cornerbacks Anwar Phillips and David Jones.
Phillips spent most of last season on Baltimore's practice squad, but he had been having an impressive offseason. He made a handful of interceptions in minicamps, but the Ravens have a number of talented corners on the roster, and Phillips was the first to be let go.
Jones was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Kentucky, and didn't show too much in minicamps.

It looked as though Anwar was having a great minicamp. Not sure I agree with this move seeing how you can never have enough corners, but obviously they know something we all don't. I would love to see a CB like KJ Gerard make the team. It sounds like he could be the next uncovered gem in our history of undrafted free agents.

Josh,
I was a bit surprised as well, but only because the move came so early. The odds of Phillips making the team were slim because of the logjam in front of him, but I definitely expected him to make it through to training camp.
