Deals coming fast and furious
Four down, two to go.
The Ravens continued their recent trend of locking up draft choices early in the offseason, signing third-round pick Lardarius Webb to a three-year, $1.7 million deal.
Webb will get a signing bonus somewhere in the neighborhood of $530,000.
"Lardarius was slowed some in the OTAs with a hamstring problem, but toward the end, when he was feeling better, he showed he belonged," head coach John Harbaugh said. "He'll help us on special teams, including as a gunner, and he'll contribute to our defense."
The Nicholls State product played both cornerback and safety in college, and he also showed his explosiveness as a kick returner. He will battle fellow cornerback Chris Carr and running back Ray Rice for the return duties this season.
Webb idolized Ed Reed growing up, and he spent a good amount of time with the Ravens' Pro Bowl safety when the two were at minicamps.
His signing now means Ozzie Newsome has completed deals with four of the Ravens' six draft picks. Only first-round pick Michael Oher and second-rounder Paul Kruger remain unsigned.

The more I read about this kid, the more I like him. I was a little leery when we took another D1-AA product in the third round of the draft (see David Pittman), but it sounds like Webb has tremendous versatility...something we desperately need in the secondary. I think he will pan out much better than Pittman.
Dan,
Do you think Cam Cameron is gonna do the 3 wide-receiver set more often this year? I noticed when the Steelers used that formation against our D, we tend to have a hard time stopping them.

Josh,
It depends if the Ravens can find a consistent third receiver. If Demetrius Williams, Marcus Smith or even Kelley Washington can step up and prove to be a reliable option, Cam would love to go three-wides now and then. I think various double tight end sets will work their way into the playbook some more as well.

Webb has a great load of potential. A good thing about him is he is a hybrid like Suggs, can play other positions well. You never know, if he doesnt work out at CB might see him behind the injury prone Landry(because I dont trust Nakamura yet).
