Dmitri Young update
Remember Dmitri Young? I almost forgot about him too. He's going to start a rehab assignment next week with Triple-A Syracuse.
Young has been on the disabled list all season with back and hip injuries. Once the rehab begins, the Nationals will have 20 days to figure out what to do with him.
They can either put him on the 25-man roster or release him. What do you think they will do?
Young is making $5 million this season and the team has an option for $6 million for next year, which may be vested based on 500 plate appearances this season. Obviously that is not going to happen.
Unless Washington trades Nick Johnson, I don't see Young putting on a Nationals uniform ever again.
Outfielder Josh Willingham, on the bereavement list, will take the full seven days he's allowed before returning to the Nationals.
Willingham has been with his family after the death of his younger brother. Willingham should return to the team on Saturday when the Nationals host the Blue Jays.
