It's all about the rooks
The NHL is done, and Pittsburgh has itself another title. Awesome.
The NBA is done, and Kobe has his first Shaq-less ring. Good for him.
And today marks the last Ravens minicamp of the summer that's open to the media. Try and hold back your tears, please.
But don't go thinking you've just got baseball to keep tabs on until head coach John Harbaugh kicks off training camp in late July; I'll still be here with player notes and updates on everything on the Purple and Black as we get deeper into the summer.
It's a rookie camp this week at The Castle, so I'll have plenty of time to watch the drafted guys like Michael Oher and Paul Kruger as well as undrafted signees like Eron Riley and K.J. Gerard.
The Ravens have also brought in a number of additional players for this camp who will be with the squad on a trial basis.
That list includes Towson product Tommy Breaux, who played both football and basketball for the Tigers. Breaux has a 6-foot-7, 199 pound frame, and impressive speed to go with it (he ran a 4.47 in the 40). He spent some time down I-95 with the Redskins earlier this offseason.
Breaux battled injuries in his limited time in pads at Towson, but finished his senior season on a positive note, scoring five touchdowns in his final four games.
Three other receivers are among the group: Will Buchanon (who has spent time on the Raiders, Chiefs and Panthers' practice squads and stands at 6-foot-3, 190), Chris Vaughn (Louisville, 6-foot-3, 224), and Kenneth Harris (Georgia, 6-foot-3, 215).
Both Vaughn and Harris recently attended camp with the Saints but did not catch on.
Rounding out the list are cornerbacks Jabari Marshall (Duke) and Jonathan Zevon (LSU), defensive linemen Jameson Hartke (Ohio University) and Cortez McCraney (Mississippi State), safety Kelin Johnson (Georgia), and linebacker Tony Fein (Ole Miss).
Johnson got a quick cup of coffee with the Seahawks last season before being cut out of training camp, while Zevon spent last year's camp with the Jets before being released.
