It's time to move Hanrahan
| | Comments (5)

It appears that right-hander Joel Hanrahan has lost all confidence when he takes the mound.

In 1/3 of an inning tonight, Hanrahan faced five batters and four of them reached base; and all of them scored. He struck out the other.

Hanrahan replaced Ross Detwiler and gave up a two-run double before getting a strike out. Then he walked the next batter and allowed two singles before manager Manny Acta had seen enough.

His ERA jumped a full run, from 6.68 to 7.71. Hanrahan threw 27 pitches, 16 for strikes.

I think it's time for the nationals to rethink having Hanrahan in the bullpen. He's out of options so they either DFA him or out right release him.

Manny sure does play favorites, literally. He finally gave up on Kearns. Maybe now he will realize that just because a player is likable and has a good work ethic does not mean he is of major league caliber. Or, maybe he won't. Can't that also be said of Manny????

It has nothing to do with favorites. Kearns had to be given a shot b/c of his $8 million contract. How do you justify sitting a guy making that much money? It's not Manny, it's the front office

Spot on.

I assume Bergmann or Rivera will take his place but I'm loving what JD Martin is doing in AAA.

Add Logan Kensing into the mix

Wrong. Put a real defense behind him to get some confidence back and his ERA will return to the 4's at the highest. He's exactly the pitcher the Nats need to have right now, they're not exactly going to the World Series.

A defense isn't going to help Hanrahan. His fastball is too flat. Even one of the Nats cathers agreed with me on that. He has no confidence on his breaking pitch(s). Maybe a change of scenery will do him good.

Cut Hanrahan, call up Balester, move Stammen to the pen.

The Nats will need balester later this season when J-Zimm, Martis, Stammen and Detwiler are shut down b/c of innings. Stammen or Detwiler will be sent down to AAA when Olsen is activated tomorrow.

I've had my issues with Hanrahan -- but flat fastball or no, when it's hit it stays in the house. He may never be Goose Gossage, but improved defense and better luck will see Hanrahan's numbers improve to a tolerable range.

If Hanrahan is DFA'd or let go, he will be snapped up like that. Bet on it. And he will come back to haunt us.

What good is it if "it stays in the house" when he's giving up runs? Nearly every ball is hit hard, even outs.
