Jones Over Trade
| | Comments (5)

Adam Jones doesn't the sweat the Mariners anymore. He used to, just a bit, but not anymore.

Posting the sixth best batting average in the American League is a good way to show he's moved on, and is quite happy where he is today.

It's funny how success can help a person overcome hurt. Even though Adam was never vocal about feeling slighted when he was traded from Seattle to Baltimore, he definitely took it to heart.

There were mixed emotions. Jones saw it as an opportunity to play everyday in Baltimore, but he also dealt with the reality that the team who had high hopes for him saw him as expendable.

His brother, Anson, who is visiting Jones in Seattle, told me Adam was a little perturbed when he went from first round draft pick to one-fifth of a five-for-one trade to Baltimore.

Adam admitted when he first returned to Safeco Field as an Oriole last year, he wanted to play well so the Mariners might regret getting rid of him.

This year Jones has matured both as a ballplayer and a person, and tells me he could care less about proving anything to the Mariners. He says he now sees them as just another road team.

Funny thing is, last year; the Mariners may have still felt justified in trading Jones. He hit a little bit, but still had yet to prove he could live up to the expectations surrounding a first round draft pick.

This year, they have to be banging their heads against the wall.

The Orioles definitely won in that trade.

*knocking on wood* This could be the reverse of the Glenn Davis trade. We gave up Finley (all-star CF), Schilling (all-star pitcher), and Harnisch (serviceable ML starter) for Davis. Jones, Tillman, and Sherrill could eventually outplay that group. Who knows what we'll get from Mickolio and Butler.

Dear Amber,

Great reporting as usual; you are a tremendous asset to the broadcasts and to Baltimore sports.

With a brother named "Anson", it sounds like the Joneses are a real baseball family!

Amber, if you can, could you ask Adam if there is a nickname he's traditionally gone by, or if he likes some of the preliminary attempts? My favorites are Joe Angell's "Mr. Jones", or the School of Roch's "Bazooka" Jones (for the arm, the speed, the leaping, the bat, and the gum, all explosive) or my own (and he won't pick mine out of modesty), "The Truth".

I'm from Seattle, and a die hard Mariner's fan, and speaking as a guy who was 19 and CRIED when Griffey was traded for Mike Cameron... GRiffey deal included, I have never been so furious with a GM as I was with Bill Bavasi for trading away Adam Jones. And to make matters worse, they give away a guy like George Sherril, who everyone in Seattle loved.

Now I see Tillman is shaping up to be a real top of the rotation guy...this deal was and will remain horrible all the way around.

Glad to see Ad turning into a superstar. Everyone on the planet EXCEPT Bill Bavasi knew that he would.

They keep saying "Markakis" is the face of the franchise. I am seeing that Bazooka Jones is gonna pass him as "the face" at ths rate and Mr. Wieters may pass Nick as well. Nick's not "personable" enough to be the face. Too shy and mumbly. Not sure if you all have noticed but Andy has fleeced everybody he has dealt with so far!! Just look at what he got for Ramon the lazy man catcher. We were just hoping he would just go away and we got several ace prospects for him!! GO ANDY GO - trade some more, amazing how he gets back 3 - 5 GOOD ONES for our garbage!!!
Amber does a great job, just wish she would respond to her bloggers some. Never seems to how come??
