Nationals Option Shairon Martis to Syracuse, Reinstate Scott Olsen from Disabled List
The Washington Nationals today, following their series finale at Oriole Park, optioned right-handed pitcher Shairon Martis to Syracuse of the Triple-A International League, and recalled from rehab and reinstated left-handed pitcher Scott Olsen from the 15-Day Disabled List. Nationals Assistant General Manager and Vice President of Baseball Operations Mike Rizzo made the announcement.
Olsen was 1-4 with a 7.24 ERA in eight starts with Washington prior to being placed on the 15-Day Disabled List on May 18 (retroactive to May 17) with left-shoulder tendinitis. On Monday at Florida, Olsen will make his first big league start in more than six weeks and attempt to earn his 20th career victory at Land Shark Stadium.
Olsen went 31-37 with a 4.63 ERA in four seasons with the Marlins before being acquired by the Nationals with left fielder Josh Willingham on November 11, 2008 in exchange for infielder Emilio Bonifacio.
The 25 year-old Olsen made four rehab starts--one with Potomac of the Single-A Carolina League and three with Syracuse of the Triple-A International League--and finished 1-0 with a 4.60 ERA. He combined to walk six and strike out 13 for the two clubs.
Martis, 22, is 5-3 with a 5.25 ERA in 15 starts for the Nationals.
