Nationals Reinstate Elijah Dukes from DL, Place Kip Wells on 15-Day DL
The Washington Nationals today recalled from rehab and reinstated outfielder Elijah Dukes from the 15-Day Disabled List and placed right-handed pitcher Kip Wells on the 15-Day DL, retroactive to May 31, with a right adductor strain. Nationals Assistant General Manager and Vice President of Baseball Operations Mike Rizzo made the announcement.
Dukes missed the last 13 games, after going on the DL with a left hamstring strain on May 20 (retroactive to May 18). In two games during his rehab assignment with Harrisburg of the Double-A Eastern League, he went 2-for-8 with one walk. The 24-year-old has batted .277 (31-for-112) with eight doubles, one triple, four home runs and 24 RBI in 34 games with the Nationals in '09.
Wells has tallied a 0-2 record with 4 holds, 2 saves and a 6.26 ERA in 19 games with the Nationals. He suffered his injury while pitching in Saturday's loss at Philadelphia.
