Nationals Reinstate Kip Wells from DL, Option RHP Jason Bergmann to Triple-A Syracuse
The Washington Nationals today returned from rehab and reinstated right-handed pitcher Kip Wells from the 15-Day Disabled List and optioned right-handed pitcher Jason Bergmann to Syracuse of the Triple-A International League. Nationals Assistant General Manager and Vice President of Baseball Operations Mike Rizzo made the announcement.
Wells missed the last 12 games, after he was placed on the DL with a right adductor strain on June 2 (retroactive to May 31). In four rehab appearances with Potomac of the Single-A Carolina League, he posted a 1.80 ERA (1 ER/5.0 IP). Wells is 0-2 with a 6.26 ERA with the Nationals in '09. In 19 appearances, he has tallied four holds and has converted both save opportunities.
Bergmann, 27, went 0-1 with a 6.91 ERA in 14 appearances with the Nationals.
