Nats can't solve Nolasco, Marlins
| | Comments (0)

The Nationals bullpen, actually Ron Villone, wasted a great outing from left-hander Scott Olsen, as Washington remains winless against the Marlins in 2009.

Olsen, reinstated from the disabled list on Sunday, tossed seven innings of two-run ball, but settled for a no-decision in his first start since May 7.

Villone gave up a lead-off double to pinch-hitter Wes Helms to start the eighth. Helms was lifted for pinch-runner Alejandro De Aza, who was sacrificed to third.

Former National Emilio Bonifacio lifted a sac fly to center that scored De Aza easily for the eventual game-winner.

Julian Tavarez came in and allowed the next four Marlins to reach base, adding an insurance run on a bases loaded walk, giving Florida the 4-2 win

With two outs in the ninth, the Nationals had runners on first and third, but former Marlin Josh Willingham flied out to center to end the game.

Washington jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second when Ryan Zimmerman, batting clean-up for the second straight game, lead off the inning with his 13th home run of the season.

Wil Nieves' infield single scored Willingham, who hit a ground-rule double, to give the Nats a two-run advantage.

After Nieves' hit, Marlins starter Ricky Nolasco retired 19 of the next 20, finishing eight strong innings and improving to 7-1 in his career against the Nationals.

Florida got to Olsen in the third when lead-off batter Chris Coghlan singled home Brett Carroll. After Bonifacio tripled, Hanley Ramirez singled him home with the tying run.

Olsen finished with seven strike outs and no walks while throwing 94 pitches, 66 for strikes.

The Marlins have now 22 of 25 against the Nationals including eight straight in Florida.
