Nats give Storen $1.6 million bonus
The Nationals introduced closer Drew Storen, who was their 10th pick in the first-round, to the media this afternoon.
Storen agreed to a deal with a signing bonus worth $1.6 million, well below what the 10th overall pick received the last three years.
The right-hander will report to Single-A Hagerstown in the coming days, but he's hoping his time in the Minor Leagues is a short one.
"I'm excited but I also know at the same time that my performance dictates when that happens," Storen said. "Hopefully I can prove to them that I am worthy of that and I would love to help the Nationals on the big league level."
Stanford catcher Jason Castro, who signed with Houston for a $2.07 million bonus, was the 10th pick last year.
In 2007, San Francisco selected high school left-hander Madison Bumgarner with the 10th pick, and gave him a $2 million bonus.
Right-hander Tim Lincecum, the 10th pick in 2006, received $2.025 million.
