Nats sign Storen
In less than 24 hours, the Nationals agreed to terms with their second pick in the first round, 10th overall, right-handed reliever Drew Storen. Terms of the deal were not disclosed
Storen, who was originally drafted by the Yankess in the 34th round in 2007, but didn't sign, played college ball at Stanford University where he went 7-1 with seven saves in 28 games in 2009.
In 42 2/3 innings this season, Storen struck out 66 and only issued eight walks and 34 hits.
Storen, who is considered a closer, can start, but he'll take what ever role the Nationals give him.
"I really don't have a preference," said Storen. "I feel like I have the ability to do both and that's something that out of my control. If the Nationals want to make me a starter, I can do that. If they want me to be the closer or middle relief guy, I can do that too. I'm the type of guy that likes being out there and facing hitters. If I'm pitching, I'm happy, that's what it comes down to."
Storen said he wanted to get a deal finished quickly because he has plans to pitch this season and with the Nationals not having a closer, he just may get the opportunity.
