News & Notes: Guzman, Willingham and the catchers
Cristian Guzman is out due to the fact that lefty Randy Johnson is pitching and he's still nursing a sore right thumb.
Guzman bruised it in New York last week and the weather up there didn't help. Manager Manny Acta said he still has trouble gripping the bat when batting left-handed.
I asked Guzman how he felt and he said he's ok, but the rest will definitely help.
Now that catcher Jesus Flores is out indefinitely, Wil Nieves and Josh Bard will split time behind the plate.
Acta said the two will split time behind the dish.
"It's not a straight platoon, but we'll play them as we see fit," he said. "One week on guy will catch two guys and the other one catching three. The next week the other way around up until somebody runs away with it and proves to us that he should be out there every single day."
Left fielder Josh Willingham is day-to-day with a stomach virus that's left him pretty weak.
There is no timetable for his return.
If he was feeling good enough to play, Willingham would've been in the starting lineup tonight and Adam Dunn would be sitting with Johnson on the hill.
