On Martis, Lannan, Dunn & M's trade
| | Comments (3)

Another good outing for John Lannan, and a return to the minors for...Shairon Martis?

Actually, I'm not totally shocked by the Martis demotion. He's had some command issues of late, and if there's one thing this staff needs less of it's bases on balls. I'm sure he'll be back in September if not sooner.

Admittedly, I thought that Joel Hanrahan or Jesus Colome would get the pink slip, but Joel had a long chat with Hall of Famer Jim Palmer on Saturday, and maybe he picked something up of value. Whatever, I think he's still on a short leash.

John Lannan has emerged as a genuine staff leader this year. He's evened his record at 5-5, but more importantly has shown some real maturity. He overcame some leadoff walks this afternoon, and gave the Nats a chance to win.

Adam Dunn hit one of the longest home runs I've seen hit at Camden Yards. It bounced off of Eutaw Street and hit the second floor of the warehouse. I guess a broken window was too much to ask.

Oh, and the trade today - Ryan Langerhans to Seattle for Mike Morse. It's a break for Ryan, who will report to the big club on Tuesday. Morse reports to Syracuse and will likely get a September call-up to Washington. He's a big dude, 6'4", 220 pounds, and has played every infield position during his professional career. I don't see him as a much more than a AAA player long-term, but at 27, maybe he'll surprise us.

Phil, what happen to ERNIE TYLER? I'VE NOTICED HE NOT BEHIND THE PLATE ANYMORE AT THE YARD ================ Ernie's there, but still recovering from hernia surgery earlier this season. He's certainly not thinking about retirement quite yet.

Ernie works mainly in the umpires' room these days -- so I've heard from Roch Kubatko and Peter Schmuck.

Mr. Wood- Earlier this summer we heard rumors of Johnson going in a trade. What have you heard??? I have heard/read the names of Willingham, Guzman ect. but like the "Good-Bye" Manny reports...all of these names could only be rumors. I really like our Team/Management and would hate to loose anyone but.........

Go Nats!!! RR-Winchester, VA. ================ Nick's still here - and still healthy - and so is Manny. I don't see any major shakeups, but at season's end it will be interesting to see which of the ex-Reds management that Bowden brought aboard stick around.
