I was hoping Nick would get a day off. Good move! But why isn't Huff in the lineup? Seems like he is heating up.

Wetzel said:

This is our best Sunday lineup in years. 8 RH bats against a tough lefty and the 1 left handed bat in the lineup (Scott) has been hitting LHP well all season. This is exactly how you utilize a deep and diverse bench and I think this lineup gives us a good shot at beating Hamels today.

Annie said:

Give me one good reason why Nolan isn't in the lineup- TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW. What is this, seriosly? Did you hear what Melvin said in the Sun today? Nolan and Matt HAVE to play, everyday, and there is no reason for them to not be in that lineup every day.

Nolan started in right field. - Roch

Brian said:

good I like Nolan in the lineup give Nick the day off. Good reporting Roch

steve said:

Is this Nick's first rest and/or actual benching this year? Seems like it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I wouldn't call it a benching. A first rest is more like it. But he's in there now. - Roch

Carlos O. said:

Not a bad idea to sit Nick and Aubrey against Cole Hamels. I'm sure we'll see one, if not both, later in the game as pinch hitters. I dig it.

Phew...I want the sweep, but I also want Markakis in right and Reimold in left. I think Nolan makes those two catches last night, but hey I can't complain everything worked out.

John From Rochester NY said:

Roch, it's great to see Nicky finally getting a day off...he seems a little burned out, and it's gonna be great for him to get some rest. Besides, there is nothing wrong with having one of the best hitters in baseball available to pinch hit.

John said:

Glad to see Markakis sit for a game.

Paul said:

lol mora

this is getting old fast (and so is mora!)

Craig said:

Markakis needs a day off...have mostly right handed bats in there..Wiggy is hot right now so a day of rest for Huff is no big deal...Scott at cleanup...nice lineup no matter how different..and nice bench if needed.

mshif2542 said:

I think a day off for Nick is in order. He seems to be just a bit off with his swing. The rest will do him good. Or....is there something wrong with him?

Mike S said:

Great....Huff is breaking out of his slump, hitting the ball well, driving in runs, and is benched....God forbid Trembley go against "THE PLAN"

John said:

Nick resting and Reimold second,I like it.Guts needs to step up today to keep the party going.

Andy352 said:

Roch;
I like this line-up against a left handed!

Russ in Sarasota said:

Happy Father's Day Roch,

Last night on the MASN broadcast, either Gary Thorne or Buck Martinez supposedly made the comment that a number of players went into Dave Trembley's office prior to last night's game to question, or at least voice their concerns, with his lineup. Have you heard anything about this or can you confirm this? I know he wanted to get Scott some at bats, but Riemold should have been in that lineup with a left handed starter.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks. Not with the team, so not sure if that's true. - Roch

Kathyo said:

Good time to give Nick two days off. He looks fatigued and the team is going into Florida where it is hotter than Hades right now. Hope Koji doesn't get heat stroke.

orange crayon jesus said:

Nice to see Wieters in there, and Nolan at #2! This would be a good time for MelMo to get a couple of hits.

Boy, the natives are cranky around here, busting on DT for his moves and non-moves yesterday. Actually the move I thought was most potentially second-guessable was not putting Pie in to play left in the bottom of the 7th. He might have had one or two of those doubles.

Nate said:

That's a rarity, Markakis getting a day off when not injured.

BC Mike said:

Good lineup versus a lefty.

Apparently a remake of "The Defiant Ones" is in the works. Instead of Tony Curtis and Sidney Poitier...Craig and Brummie.

SHERNORIOLES said:

The one left hander that has been hitting the lefthanded pitching is sitting on the bench?(huff) Oh please trembley you do this every sunday!! Nick does need a breather. I hope it turns out like last sunday but this is the phillies ace!!! Gutherie isnt really pitching like an ace either. Hope he pitches well and gives the team a chance Go orioles!!!!!!

Gary said:

A good idea to rest Kakes - who is struggling - against a tough lefty...good move.

Janet Zahn said:

Is it true that Howard is not in the line up for today because he had to go back to the hospital? Nothing like coming in and getting a homerun after having a 104 degree fever. Even has an Orioles fan I got to respect that I am just glad that the O's were able to come back and win. What a game.

Chris_SU said:

Wow, Reimold getting the start in right. Should be an interesting game. Hope we can get into Hamels early and give Guthrie some runs to work with.

lftyg33 said:

DT would barely ever bat luke cleanup when he was on fire and now hes batting him cleanup when hes struggling??? and wheres huff? hes one of the hottest hitters on the team right now!

Birdfan from Birth said:

Whoa.

Da Birds said:

I figured this out...the way to get into Dave's Doghouse is to get yourself on a hot streak. Jack a homer? Get set down the next day. Go 3 for 4? Take a seat. Obviously I'm being sarcastic, but I think Dave needs to play his hot hand and not be so set in what he's going.

West Coast O's fan said:

Well that's definitely a creative line up. Hamels is going to be tough, but I smell a sweep.
Go Orioles!

Brummie_Oriole said:

No complaints today, at least to start off with.

Had to take the wife out today to make up for waking her up last night when I was cheering over B-Rob's home run.

Nice lineup.

Hey Roch and everyone else, check out this quote from Buster Olney:

"1. The Orioles will not be in salary-dump mode, but they could make some trades before the July 31 deadline, O's president Andy MacPhail acknowledges in this Jeff Zrebiec piece. A big question about Aubrey Huff, Melvin Mora and Danys Baez is whether they will have any trade value if the team that acquires them has to pay their salary. Given the current financial climate, very few teams are willing to take on significant salary. To take on Huff in the second half, a team would have to take on $4 million, or half his $8 million salary; to take on Mora for the final 81 games or so, the cost would be $4.5 million. Baez would cost $2.75 million.

This season, the few teams able to take on salary are much more likely than ever to tell the Orioles, or a team in a similar situation, something along these lines: Sure, we'll do you a favor by taking Mora's salary off your hands, but we won't give you any good prospects in return. Or, interested teams could ask for financial relief, saying to the Orioles, Tell you what -- if you eat $2 million of the $4 million owed to Huff for the second half, we'll give you a Grade B prospect. The lack of cash flow in the majors this summer is likely to restrict movement, just as it has in the general economy."

I'll have to put myself in the category of "all i think about is player a traded for players b, c, and d, and I don't really think much about the economics of it all. So it may be harder to trade some of these guys after all.

Also, Mr Andino was featured as the player with the best web gem performance from yesterday. He's been on there a lot recently.

West Coast O's fan said:

Roch,
First off, Happy Fathers Day, your a lucky man!
Question for you. If Huff leaves after this season. Would he be a Type A or B free agent, and how is that determined? Thanks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks. Not sure how that's determined. Will have to check around. - Roch

That's still a really solid lineup, even without Nick.

If Nick needs a day off, then at least it works out well to have Wieters in there on a Sunday instead of Zaun to make up some of the power.

I'm still scratching my head as to why Zaun was allowed to bat in the 9th last night, but at least it worked out.

Brummie_Oriole said:

The HD was working really well on MLB.TV last night. Let's just say I finally understand the hype around Amber. Nice rock on her finger.

As for Gary and Buck...... not so nice to see in HD. Was Buck a villan in one of the Batman comics before he got a job at MASN?

Jack said:

Lets hope Guthrie finds his groove this game?
It would be nice to win a Sunday game too!

I hope the phones are working in the warehouse. Andrew
needs to be talking TRADE during this. Names like Huff, Mora
Baez, Sherill, Hendrickson, Zaun and so on need to be on the trade block.

Lets hope Andrew is PROACTIVE and not REACTIVE again

Steve J said:

Do you think if Brian was actually running, he could've made things tougher on the 3b? Instead, it's a routine out.

Tom said:

At last, Reimold is batting 2nd where he belongs!

birdland84 said:

I like that lineup versus a Lefty, gives Nick a much needed day off!

Grant in Tidewater said:

I cant help but make this comparison.
Wally Pipp --- Lou Gehrig
Cesar Izturis --- Robert Andino

Jack said:

Roch,
At what point do the Orioles start to explore other options at 3rd besides Mora. He has shown NO power this year and is not part of the future. How about putting Huff over there?

Steve J said:

B-Rob could've hat a triple if he had been RUNNING in the 6th inning!!!!

And after all the ball bobbling by the Phillies, he could've taken 3rd base 2 more times!

Dave in OC said:

Melvin Mora is the worst baserunner in the history of baseball. That's all I got..

Matt said:

Good old Mora. He is good for a horrible 1st-to-3rd baserunning out every single game. I am so glad his contract is over with.

orange crayon jesus said:

Didn't see it, but according to the Phils' announcers MelMo was out easily. Boy, he's becoming one terrible baserunner. Can DT just give him the red light, like all the time? For a supposedly fast team, the O's seem to make a ton of outs on the bases.

Brummie_Oriole said:

Guthrie has looked like an ace today. The guys just can't crack Hamels.

happy fathers day ROCH! i'm the one that just moved back to the carroll county area after living in LOS ANGELES for 25 yrs. so that's why i don't answer the phone on father's day,,,,,,smiles! did u get to play any tennis today? i was a tennis pro out there and taught all levels from beginners to college players. i was lucky enough to have coached quite a few actors-directors- producers-pro sports players etc. the ONLY reason i give u this backround is i have worked with celebrities like u,,,(smiles)since no-one knows my real name here iam not giving u my info for my ego but some of my creds. since moving back i have been lucky enough to give back some to the community. if u are interested to hit sometime i'm sure i can improve your game as well as have some fun. no pressure! but since u are only 30 yrs old,,,with a little practice and some help.......u might STILL be able to challenge FEDERER-NADAL- or maybe RODDICK for U.S. supremecy,,,,,not sure if my e mail comes to u but let me know your thoughts,,,,i need some exercise too!! my schedule is very flex. have a beautious day,,,,,K

Brummie_Oriole said:

Agreed Jack. And Pie needs to be on that list as well. He never plays and has a minimal role on this team.

Andrew was quite arrogant in an interview recently, boasting about how Pie would be claimed in 2 seconds if he was on the waiver wire. Well if that is the case Andrew, you should try trading him.

Again it is this defensive mentality in the warehouse bunker. He thinks Pie is a talented player that is just a few at bats away from breaking out and becoming a super star. Pie is nowhere close to that level. He belongs in the minors, or on the Nationals. But Andrew thinks he has a diamond in his pocket so he'll keep Pie on the roster for the whole season no matter how bad he is.

Brummie_Oriole said:

Perlozzo is the acting manager for the Phillies. WE GOT THIS GAME!

AK said:

When do we start considering seriously trading Izturis and making Andino an everyday shortstop? Obviously Izturis has given us everything we expected (and more) when we signed him, but he's only on a two-year contract.

If you can get a few prospects, I don't see why trading Izturis would make any less sense than trading Huff. Once Snyder comes up, our farm system will be devoid of bats once again. It's time to replenish.

Happy Father's Day indeed Roch. Now let's get the sweep and it'll be the opposite of the Mother's Day Massacre of a couple of years ago.

Lots of positives and negatives today. Does anyone have a solution for Melvin's consistent violation of the golden rule of baseball? I would have pulled him off the field one of the first 7 times it happened but I guess that would too "firm" with a veteran. Interesting that no repercussions leads to no change in behavior. Good times.

Great to see BRob hitting again, Jones starting to get it together, and Markakis getting (most of) a day off. Andino is really going to create a blog war with his solid play.

If Huff can't get a good return (even if he can get a prospect), I say sign him up for 2 years - $18 million. I worry about 3B defense next year if Melvin leaves. Thoughts?

John said:

Pie should have been running for Mora after that lead off single. He would have made it to third. You use 2 players but who cares.
