Play resumes; Jordan on Flacco
I thought a 27-minute rain delay would allow Koji Uehara to catch his breath, but he surrendered three straight hits once play resumed, and the Mariners have taken a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the third.
Brian Matusz has struck out seven batters in four innings for Single-A Frederick.
Japanese pitcher Ryohei Tanaka threw another scoreless inning tonight for Double-A Bowie, striking out one in Connecticut's 2-1 victory.
Mike Flacco, brother of Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, will play all four corners once he signs - first base, third base, left field and right field - until the Orioles determine a position for him.
"I saw him in our workout here last Thursday," said Joe Jordan, director of scouting. "He's a big, good-looking kid, I guess like you'd think. He ran good, he threw good. He hit the ball out of the ballpark a few times. He's an athlete. I think professional instruction will be really good for this guy. He has physical ability. It's not the cleanest approach in the world and he works under the ball some, but you can help guys with that. But he's a good-looking kid. I'm anxious to see him play."

He'll probably make an error as soon as I push send, but Andino has been playing very well at SS since Itzuris has been out.
He looks better than anyone they ran out there last year. Nice little trade on the GM's part.
Roch--Looking forward to Unitas, Matte, Parker, Moore, Berry, Lewis, and Reed joining the Orioles in future drafts.
this team is in a slump because every batter is trying to hit a hr on every swing. Its maddening. We should be tearing Olson up.
This must be Markakis' toughest stretch since the beginning of his rookie year. He has really let some big at bats go to waste in the last 3 weeks. He'll be fine but I'm surprised to see him continue to scuffle. We need you Cakes!
Never thought I would see the day Olson outpitches uehara. I'm gonna stop supporting this team for the year pretty soon here. Its not entertainment when it just makes me mad the whole game.
Come on guys you played with Olsen for 3 years you know he can't throw 3 strikes to any batter so take some pitches.
Looks like all the pitchers are on the move (matusz, Arrieta and Patton---interesting - and exciting because there aint much to cheer about the way these guys are "swinging" the bat - kakes has been just awful.
This is so aggrevating!!!
I wish our hitters could just get a break ONCE.
I mean come on, Garrett Olson was horrible last year!!
He hasn't changed at all!
I swear, if Gary Thorne calls him 'Kevin Bass' one more time, I'll throw the remote at the TV.
At least it'll get some frustration out over this hitting slump.
Why does Ichiro Suzuki have Ihiro on the back of his jersey & Koji Uehara have his last name on the back??
Also, why cant the O's hit Garrett Olson? Do they not realize they can get on base if they get 4 balls? This is getting ridiculous. Why does Terry Crowley get such a pass. I dont care if the players like him, they are not performing. This has been going on for 11 years. There is no accountability for our hitting coach, only the manager & pitching coaches? Pretty sad
Our offense is so bad, we make Olsen even look like Cy Young. I have never seen a whole team go into a slump like this. This isn't one or two players, its the whole team. Jones can't hit a thing right now.
Frankly, it has nothing to do with breaks. Two nights ago, Roberts led off the game with a double that hit chalk. Last night, Markakis lined a double that hit chalk. Nothing to complain about, there.
Tonight, Markakis, with men in scoring position and two out, swung at 3 pitches that would have been balls. He flew out to left, now 2 for 11 with men in scoring position and two outs this season.
Jones, ahead on the count, swings at a outside pitch he should go the other way with and grounds out to short.
Breaks are not required. Good hitting is.
Barry,
I said I wish we could get a break because we've been hitting the ball hard tonight and they've all been right at people. I agree Markakis has been terrible with RISP.
A bad break being...Reimold's hit up the middle off of the base. Or all the hard hit balls tonight that have been right at the fielders.
But I also agree that the wrong guys are getting up at the wrong times.
