Snyder moving up? (updated)
I'm hearing strong rumblings that first baseman Brandon Snyder is being promoted from Double-A Bowie to Triple-A Norfolk.
No announcment has been made and nothing is official, but don't be shocked if we receive confirmation tomorrow.
I spoke with Andy MacPhail, president of baseball operations, earlier today and asked if Snyder was getting the "Nolan Reimold treatment," which was the word on the street. The organization apparently had decided to let him build up his numbers and work on his defense at Double-A, rather than moving him at the break. However, I sensed from MacPhail's response that the plan was changing.
I just didn't realize it might be this soon.
Snyder is continuing his assault on Eastern League pitching, and Norfolk's roster has been depleted by promotions and injuries. Jolbert Cabrera has been playing first base for the Tides. Oscar Salazar is here.
The lineup also lost Reimold, Matt Wieters, Lou Montanez, Justin Turner and Donnie Murphy. I'm probably leaving out a few more, but you get the idea.
Snyder was batting .343 with 19 doubles, 10 homers and 45 RBIs in his first 58 games.
Update: I checked The Sun's Web site and Dean Jones, who was at Bowie tonight, confirmed Snyder's promotion. The Orioles' ninth-inning rally and post-game press conference slowed me down. I couldn't post until I finished transcribing manager Dave Trembley's comments. Anyway, good for Snyder. He's earned it.

Very interesting. Snyder does deserve the promotion after annihilating the Eastern League for Bowie.
Okay, annihilation was a bit too strong - but he's played very well.
I'm happy that he's at Norfolk, only one stop away from Baltimore. Let's see if the announcement is official.
The Sun just said Brandon Snyder would be playing tomorrow night for Norfolk.
Seems like people want to constantly second guess DT especially letting Berken go into the 7th inning but it is time to start stretching out the pitches and he was only around 90 or so pitches. In case anyone hasn't noticed it isn't like the Orioles have any chance at the playoffs anyhow. Just time to develop the players AND work on the fundamentals (which I do blame DT for).
Nice comeback win, especially against that annoying Francisco Rodríguez.
I'm happy for Brandon Snyder, but I think it spells the end for Aubry. If Snyder is playing/hitting well at Norfolk by mid July I think Huff will be traded and there will be no resigning him after the season. Good Luck Brandon.
Well, The Mets just got an extended look at Huff, and maybe he just became really enticing to them. At times, they seem to be doing ok without Delgado, and they need some starting pitching pretty badly, but they do have a gaping hole in their lineup.
If Huff gets traded in a month and a half, or even at the waiver deadline, do you see Snyder making the jump if he does well against AAA pitching? If defense is his only problem, and he improved very much at AA this year, how far away can he be from the bigs?
In my opinion, if not this year, then it will be next.
Roch,
Justin Turner never cracked the lineup for the series in Louisville. He told me prior to a game earlier in the week that he was OK and off the DL as of Wednesday. The Tides certainly need some offense. Snyder and Turner could cure some ills.

Chuck, I don't see Snyder as major league ready this year. I thought he was going to be another year off. I'd like to see how he does with AAA pitching. If he does what Reimold did to it then I say he's ready, but if he hits in the high 200's low 300's I'd let him just build confidence there untill the all star break next year. But Im also in the camp that wants to resign Huff for 2 years.
Great news all around tonight, I can't wait til the next Tides homestand.
First Matusz, now Snyder. Way to go Andy!
I was hoping to see Huff mock Franky as he ran to first, but I guess since they may be teammates soon, that wouldn't be a good idea.
I'm thinking positive and we are on track to have four, ten game winners.
Snyder = September Callup.
Even if Huff is traded, the Orioles have Wigginton and Salazar to man first base the rest of the year. Snyder will be given an extended amount of time to perform at Norfolk, and if he does well should be rewarded with his debut at the end of the year.
Hey Roch - Dave's cup tonight? What was in it? He seemed to be having a lot of fun at the press conference.

Roch-
Its about time hey? I wish he could play 3rd still at a high level, because there is no way, he wouldn't put up better numbers than Mora.
Are they making Snyder practice his over the shoulder pop up catches?
Well everyone worth a grain of salt has been promoted now,way ahead of what most people would have thought over "the plan". I'm not complaining though,Mcphail has gone from an indecisive footdragger to pushing full steam ahead.I have to believe there are a few trades already in place for the deadline,if not sooner.I'm not really that anxious to see anyone traded,to get anything back you're going to have to give up something and that's the scary part.
As far as leaving Berken in too long last night, it's part of the price you have to pay for having two useless pitchers (Castillo and Hendrickson)in the bullpen.Albers and Baez are the middle inning horses they have to keep riding and saving one for the next game. This is why I think they should have kept Hernandez for middle relief. They're going to wind up being short pitchers in the upcoming 6 games with no DH.
Luke Scott must be despising the next 6 games with no DH and 5/6 starting lefties. It''l be interesting to see if Scott starts in LF over Reimold.
Markakis is never going to become a premier player until he stats coming up big in game changing situations.Same with Jones.
Too bad the vets on the team don't take patience tips from rookies Wieters and Reimold.Other teams aren't going to throw the O's strikes because they know they'll chase bad pitches.
Yea! I'll be at Harbor Park tonight with one of my boys. Hoping to see Brandon.
Roch,
Recently I've noticed that a few of the Os don't run out their ground balls hard, assuming that the opponent will make the play cleanly. More than making a physical error, this bothers me more than anything else (involved with baseball). Do you think Dave T. notices, and do you think he'd reprimand the veterans who are doing this ? This is NOT what I'd like guys like Andino, Wieters and Reimold learning from the vets.

Dave notices, but this is the kind of thing he'll address in private, not in front of the media. - Roch

And the Bedard saga continues as he misses yet another start
Good for Brandon, so long as his defense catches up to his bat he's going to be another central piece to what is becoming a wonderful Orioles puzzle.
Wonder if the O's are thinking of extending Huff to an extension, but moving him back to 3rd since it isn't likely that they are going to pick up Mora's extension next year.
Though I still think that Aubrey has turned himself into a pretty decent fielding first baseman and the O's shouldn't mess with that. I'd rather have Snyder slide over to 3rd (where he said he's most comfortable)and get his time in there so if he's ready to make a jump next season we're covered on all fronts that don't involve Wigginton having to play the field everyday.
Roch, Great job of using your Jedi Mind Trick on Andy to get Brandon promoted.
Huff trade talk? The Mets do not have a deep enough farm system, try to pry a pitching prospect from the Giants, they have never been shy about trading young arms for bats! Can we say, Bumgardner or Alderson! Then Guthrie, Beaz, or Scott will be next.

very funny...I was thinking pretty muchthe same thing. I could see Huff improving the Met's lineup...I don't see them winning the NL East w/ that crew.
BTW, I'll AM over Omar "Let's Ruin the Expos on MLB's Dime" Minaya any day of the week.
$150 mil payroll for THAT!
