Sox enjoy fan support at Camden Yards
It drives O's fans nuts. Sometimes when the Red Sox come to Camden Yards, so do Boston fans, in large numbers.
As long as the game is going the Orioles' way, you don't notice them as much. But see Boston get a big hit or take a big lead and it's a different story.
Sox veteran catcher Jason Varitek says his club enjoys that kind of support for a road game.
"It's not really that new," Varitek said. "It's close for our fans, an easy trip and tickets are available. That makes it a fun trip for people to come here."
Boston is 80-48 all-time at Camden Yards and is 21-9 in its last 30 games here. Does that fan support help Boston win games here at Camden Yards?
"It doesn't hurt, that's for sure. Anytime you can go anywhere and have support, it's great for your organization and team. But it still comes down to making plays on the field. It's great that we have that support in a lot of places," Varitek said.
Meanwhile, Boston third sacker Mike Lowell will miss tonight's game and maybe this entire series.
Lowell, who is batting .282-10-41, flew back to Boston after yesterday's game at Atlanta and got a synvisc shot in his right hip.
He had surgery on the hip over the winter and it's been bothering him lately. He batted just once in the series with the Braves.
Boston may have to make a roster move, but, at least for tonight, will take on the Birds with 24 active players.

I know you aren't supposed to root on injuries of opposing players, but I am glad for the break we get by missing Lowell's bat. Hopefully he is eligible to play Thursday. Their lineup isn't nearly as formidable with Kotsay in it.
