So if the Orioles aren't hitting much lately, just 17 runs scored over the last ten games, their batting averages with runners in scoring position must be pretty bad. That's what I thought. Here they are:

Jones: .425, leads the American League
Markakis: .348
Scott: .333
Huff: .308
Mora: .286

You could even throw in Nolan Reimold, who is an amazing 7 for 14 when batting with RISP.

So with those numbers, how come Huff and Jones have just 1 RBI their last 12 games, Markakis none in 10 games and Mora none in 22 games?

I guess they aren't getting many chances lately with RISP. Before getting three hits Wednesday, Brian Roberts was 3 for 30 and Markakis is hitting .206 since mid May.

One could say the top of the order is just not getting on enough recently to give the middle of the order chances to do damage.

That and over the last ten games, the opposing starters were Verlander, Jackson, Washburn, Bedard, Vargas, Braden, Cahill, Mazzaro, Vargas again and Hernandez.

When a team is in a hitting slump it looks like they'll never score much again. Hopefully last night gets B-Rob started and those hitters with good numbers hitting in RISP do their thing.

This can't go on much longer, can it?

I can't remember the last big hit they got. They are screaming out for a 4 or 5 run inning and someone besides Luke or Nolan to hit a HR to get them going. At least Roberts looks like he is coming around, Weiters is getting comfortable, and I don't think anyone expected Nolan to do this good. Heck at least the Minors are looking outstanding.

Steve any idea if Snyder might get a cup of coffee this year (not now), or move to Norfolk? I know they like to go one level at a time (which has worked) but with Huff a FA and Snyder coming on like he has, it would be nice for him to get his feet wet.

Just guessing here, but I think they keep Snyder at AA all year. Let him tear it up, maybe even make a run at the Triple Crown Lou got there last year. He does not need to go on the 40 man until this winter. Maybe he could get a September call, a reward for a nice season. - Steve

I don't know what DT is doing sitting on his hands not moving Melvin out of the 5 spot?? 0 RBIs in 22 games?!? Yikes...if they're worried about breaking up Markakis, Huff, & Scott with a right handed bat, why not bump Jones down to 5, put Reimold at 2, and drop Mora to 7th? Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Thanks for the stats, Steve!

At least there were some hits from different parts of the order last night. It looks like the bats may be coming around. The issue now is: can they start clicking at the right time?

In my opinion, this is just a rut. This team is much more legitimate than anything we've run out there the past few years. They may look overmatched at times, but the string of pitchers that we've seen over the past few weeks is sick. Where the hell did all of these southpaws come from?

Yikes, those are some pretty tough pitchers over that stretch. Still... good teams have to still put up runs on tough pitchers... I can't wait till the day we can do that.

Hopefully interleague play is coming at the right time. 5 series' straight of interleague play, and the only team out of the bunch that scares me is Philly. (I'm not sold on the Mets, nor will I ever be with their history)
