Milledge, Hanrahan traded to Pittsburgh
| | Comments (1)

Tuesday, June 30:
Pete McElroy writes on Nyjer Morgan: "The Nationals acquired outfielder Nyjer Morgan and left-handed pitcher Sean Burnett from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for outfielder Lastings Milledge and right-handed pitcher Joel Hanrahan.

Morgan has played mostly in left field for the Pirates, but has played in center. The speedy 28-year old, he turns 29 tomorrow, is batting .277 with six doubles, five triples, two home runs and 27 RBI and 39 runs in 71 games with Pittsburgh." [masnsports.com]

Johnny Holliday likes what he sees from Willie Harris: "Willie is the complete pro who comes to the ballpark every day ready to give it his best shot. If Manny Acta wants leadership, Willie will give it to him." [masnsports.com]

Chico Harlan says the Nats and Pirates have agreed to a trade: "The trade is actually a 2-for-2. Lastings Milledge and reliever Joel Hanrahan going to Pittsburgh. Nyjer Morgan and Sean Burnett coming to Washington." [Washington Post]

Larry Dobrow ranks the Nats No. 30 in his power rankings: "If there's anything that screams "yay, America!" more than a Fourth of July matinee between the soggy-bottom Nationals and the aggressively-not-good Braves, I don't know what it is. Grill safely, kids." [CBSSports.com]

Dave Nichols weighs in on the Nats trade with the Pirates: "It's disappointing to see the team give up on [Lastings] Milledge and [Joel] Hanrahan. Both players have many talents, but did not succeed the way the team envisioned this season." [Nats News Network]

I don't know who Dave Nichols is, however, I do know
that he must not know the history of Milledge and Hanrahan.

The Dodgers gave up on Hanrahan before the Nats acquired his "talent".
The Mets gave up on Milledge before the Nats acquired his "talent".
