Izturis on the mend
Monday: Power Rankings, Albers getting better | Wednesday: Koji seriously injured | Thursday: Could Sherrill be traded? | Friday: Power Ranking, Reimold and Hobgood
Tuesday, June 30:
Roch Kubatko writes he can see Rich Hill as a long reliever, not a specialist: "The Orioles viewed Hill strictly as a starter after trading for him, and throughout spring training and his rehab at the minor league complex. That doesn't mean he couldn't fit into a long relief role down the road, but I'm not so sure about specialist." [masnsports.com]
Dan Connolly updates Cesar Izturis' rehab from appendicitis: "Orioles manager Dave Trembley doesn't expect to get Cesar Izturis back until late July at the earliest, but the club's starting shortstop is hoping for a quicker recovery from a June 5 attack of appendicitis.
Izturis jogged and sprinted in the outfield Monday and took 30 swings off a tee, a first step toward returning to the club.
"Big progress," said Izturis, who has batted .260 in 45 games this season. "I'm feeling stronger, and today was a big day."
He said he hopes to field some balls and participate in soft-toss hitting drills today with an eye toward hitting live pitching perhaps as early as Wednesday." [Baltimore Sun]
Larry Dobrow ranks the Orioles No. 24 in his power rankings: "Would it be OK if I ignore the Orioles until they free themselves from the tyranny of mediocrities like Melvin Mora and Felix Pie? I could really use the time to concentrate on more worthy franchises. Thanks." [CBSSports.com]
