Morgan has it all to make it in the Majors
| | Comments (3)

I still have trouble figuring out why Pittsburgh would want to trade their center fielder Nyjer Morgan.

Morgan was hitting .270 when dealt to Washington along with pitcher Sean Burnett. He is a threat to wind up at second every time he gets on first, either via a base hit, walk, or error.

The thing I like most about the young guy from Mt. Tamalpais, just across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco in Marin County, is his approach to the game.

You can tell by watching Nyjer, he comes to play every day!

Just to reach the Major League level, you must have a good work ethic, love the game of baseball, and be able to perform at the maximum level for 162 games a year. Judging by what I have seen thus far, Nyjer possesses all of those qualities, and he will continue to get better.

I believe his enthusiasm for the game should...and will...rub off on his new teammates. And boy do we need that. Center field most likely will be renamed Morgantown, as was left field in Pittsburgh named after the speedy outfielder.

Defensively, there are not many outfielders who can track down a fly ball with the same grace and speed as Morgan can.

He can hit. He can run. He can steal a base. His arm is as good as most of the National League outfielders. And he hates to lose (don't we all).

Here is wishing Nyjer all the best as he strives to help the Nationals be a more consistent winning ballclub.

Pittsburgh took a basic high-risk/high-reward gamble. They traded a 29 year-old slap hitter for a 24 year-old five-tool prospect who they hope will grow-up. Sure, its seems like the Nats got the better end of this deal today - but you need to evaluate this trade three years from now.

Good move Mr. Rizzo. Nyjer gives us the defensive Center-Fielder that we've been missing. Plus, he add excitement and havoc to the National's game. The Buc's are having a early season "Fire Sale" with the departure of Monroe, Morgan, Hinske, and McLouth all with a week or two.

Go Nats!!! RR-Winchester, VA.

I've been enjoying watching Nyger on the field and on the basepaths. Burnett has been looking good as well after his first outing, where I wonder whether jitters may have been a factor after being traded from the only MLB team he'd ever played for.
