Acta calls team meeting
Prior to tonight's serious opener with the Atlanta Braves, manager Manny Acta held a team meeting to discuss what went wrong for the Nationals during the recent road trip, where they went 1-5.
"We just wanted to make sure that the guys know that after that after the 5-4 series the three series that we played with those three teams [Yankees, Blue Jays and Red Sox], that we played good enough to win in Baltimore and Florida if we would've done things different or a couple of things went our way. We just wanted to make sure they know that they are playing better and we just have to keep it up and forget about these last series'."
Acta said that no players spoke during the meeting and that acting GM Mike Rizzo was there but he didn't talk
One thing that was addressed in Florida was situational hitting. Not taking advantage of driving in runs with runners in scoring position and with men on third and less than two outs.
Acta said the team knows that they must improve in that area, but it needed to be told again.
With the addition of Nyjer Morgan and Sean Burnett, bringing in high character guys and ridding the team of those with questionable work ethic and off-field problems, Acta feels the team is heading in the right direction.
"I do see progress because we have a center fielder," he said. "This guy came over here to play centerfield for us and we had some good reports from our scouts and from people who had this guy before as a player. [Sean] Burnett is a very good left-hander out of the 'pen that's pitched very well the last two years. They are good character guys and that's what we are trying to pile up here."

Pete, we know 2 of the players traded/sent down were not liked because of character and work ethic, but was Joel Hanrahan traded for those reasons too?

Not at all. The organizations thought his time with the team came to an end and a change of scenery would do him good. They didn't feel he would improve with the Nationals. Pete
