Baysox All-Stars
Four members of the Bowie Baysox have been named to play in the Eastern League All-Star game. They are second baseman Miguel Abreu, left fielder Jonathan Tucker and relievers Josh Perrault and Ryan Ouellette. They will join five players from Akron and Erie, four players from Reading and three players from Harrisburg and Altoona to make up the Southern Division Team.
The game will be played July 15 at 7:05 p.m. in Trenton, New Jersey.
Abreu is one of the Baysox most consistent players this season. He leads the team in games (76), hits (85), doubles (18), RBI (26) and batting average (.296). Abreu played five different positions for the Baysox this year, and hit .306 in June with 12 doubles.
The speedy Tucker provides a spark at the top of the lineup for the Baysox while also playing five positions and serving as a pinch hitter. He has stolen 19 bases this season, one short of his career-high and five less than the league leader.
Perrault leads the Baysox in appearances and is a dominant force in the Baysox bullpen. He has recorded 13 saves in 16 opportunities, and did not allow an earned run in two of the three blown chances. He leads the Baysox with 38 strikeouts and has not allowed a run in 26 of his 32 outings.
Ouellette is the only All-Star who did not begin the season with the Baysox. He was promoted from Frederick on May 14. Since then, he has gone 3-1 with one save and an ERA of 2.05 in 22 innings.
Both 24-man rosters consist of at least three players from each of the Eastern League's 12 teams. At least one position player and one pitcher from each team were selected by fans through online and stadium balloting. The remaining selections were made through voting by league media, managers and officials.
