Hill dealing with shoulder issues
After giving up three runs in just 2 1/3 innings tonight, Rich Hill told reporters he's been dealing with shoulder soreness throughout the season.
"I don't know what to say really. I've been having some issues with the shoulder. We've been doing a good job of keeping the fire down a bit. Unfortunately it's something where I haven't been able to maintain any consistency. I haven't given help to this team. I apologize to the front office and the guys in this clubhouse.
"It's not what I want. I don't want to go out there and shorten the game and use the bullpen every time I take the ball. My plan is to start the game and finish it.
"There is some pain in there. It's something I've been dealing with all season. We've got some tendinitis in there. We've been doing a great job of having it ready every fifth day. Doing everything we can in the training room getting ready for that fifth day. It's something that has lingered around."
Hill was asked if he might be headed to the disabled list?
"I don't know what the next step is going to be," he said.
"I don't regret pitching through this and taking the ball. I really don't have any regrets. I go out there and compete and want to pitch. Anyone who is a competitor wants to take the mound. As selfish as that might seem, I still think I can help the team. But I've been hurting the team more than helping it."
Hill is trying to stay upbeat.
"I am still very confident. We've just been a little off here and there. I've been working hard with Rick Kranitz and Alan Dunn. A few of those pitches tonight weren't bad pitches, I jammed Butler inside and ended up giving up hits. That's the way it goes."
Hill has pitched to an ERA of 10.73 over his last six starts and on the year is now 3-3, 7.80.

I knew he would come out say am hurt what a waste!
sounds like an excuse, maybe his shoulder wouldn't hurt if he didn't aim at the stars
It wouldn't be the first time that a pitcher went on the disabled list with a swollen ERA or a case of youreabouttobereleased. Coincidental that the first we've heard of the season-long injury is two days before he'd be let go to make room for one of the best pitching prospects in baseball.
Still, if he's truly injured, then go on the DL. Personally, I don't want to lose him and his curveball, but he needs a change in philosophy and a retooling of his delivery, and both are best accomplished at Norfolk with Mike Griffin rather than here in Baltimore.
Hill will not be released after all. He will just go on the disabled list. This is the 2nd pitcher in 2 weeks that pitched and wasnt 100 %. Cost the O's the game or brought in the bullpen too early. Guthrie was sick and gave up a bunch of runs and O's couldnot recover. Now Hill has been pitching hurt. He said all season. Look at the games he has lost. unbelievable........
This annoys me greatly! I've had tendinitis and it's not fun. WHY OH WHY do you play a pitcher who's had control issues when he's dealing with tendinitis!?!?!?! He's either lying or they've made a huge mistake. Talk about setting someone up to fail (if he's telling the truth). Any way you look at this it's HORRIBLE!

He did say after the game that they have had it under control most of the time. He did not regret pitching through it. I'm guessing it's no major injury but something painful he's had to deal with. Maybe it's time for the DL and to try and fix it.

This is upsetting. If management knew about this tendinitis why did they put him in there and then have Trembley say ever so somberly that if Hill can't pitch down and control that fast ball he is just not getting the job done. Tendinitis is not comfortable at all and it sure can alter one's pitching approach, even with some kind of anti-inflamation like Naproxin or something. It will make one heistant to re-injury it. No wonder Hill doesn't seem so bothered, which is b/c he knows that management knows he's been working through this ailment. I can't imagine Hill making this stuff up seing that managment could just refute him. Why, oh why, would managment put Hill out there with that injury? Does it go to show that they are not trying to win games and win over the fans? Couldn't they just bring up a minor leaguer to see how he does? If what Hill says is true, doesn't it seem that there is something seriously wrong with management in putting him out there and then telling the media they expect him to win?

Those questions are all valid and hopefully we get some answers from Trembley later today with his press briefing/. Why was Hill pitching and will Trembley refute what Hill said last night. Hill did say they had it controlled enough that he could go out every fifth day. But the results say something different. It will be an interesting afternoon at the ballpark. My guess is the team will downplay the injury and say Hill never complained much about it but the trainers did work with him some on it. We'll see. - Steve
Didnt he complain of back problems after his struggles last year? What ever happened to not good enough??

It could be he's just not good enough. If also could be tendonitis impacted his ability to make quality pitches. Or a combination of all the above. - STeve
