Livingston follow
I never thought I'd be writing this much about Bobby Livingston but here's one final entry.
Livingston apparently requested his release from Double-A Bowie, and he's been spotted in the Akron Aeros' clubhouse.
Yes, he signed with Akron, meaning he's gone from one Double-A team to another.
Why would Livingston do this? I can only imagine it's because he felt that his path to Triple-A and the majors was blocked here, and he has a better shot in the Indians' organization.
One final minor league note: Jake Arrieta is starting tonight for Norfolk. He'll be opposed by former Oriole John Halama, who's 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA for the Gwinnett Braves.
Remember him?

He does....
Question, are the two teams playing each other tonight & the guy actually just walked around the parking lot to the other clubhouse? Maybe there was some tampering, they recruited one of our guys!!! SCANDAL AA style....
Okay, I give up. What does this headline refer to?

Just a follow up to my earlier entry about the minor league moves. That's it. - Roch
John Halama was in the trade that brought the Big Unit to Houston from Seattle.
Roch,
It has to be a major disappointment to the O's front office to decide to make it known they were interested in Sano and then seemingly back out and not sign anybody while the Cardinals, Yankees, and other stellar teams didn't hold back from signing potential Latin American stars today.
In the near future we'll be outbid for Sano by the mighty budgets of either the Twins of Pirates for what seems like the only Latin American prospect we focused on.
Seems like another Texeira situation where he "didn't want to come here" was coincidentally in play with us not willing to pay market price for talent. Crazy coincidence.
Sure most of these Latin American teenagers bust, but isn't $4 million on Sano a better "risky" investment than Jay Payton types that require the same money?
I can't speak for most O's fans, but I'd rather have that Koji money put into potential Hanley Ramirez types of "risks" than old pitchers from Japan on the massive downside of their careers.
Roch,
I know that John Parrish is done for the year.
Did he sign a one-year deal or multi-year deal? Can we expect to see him next year or is he likely done as far as the O's are concerned?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He signed a minor league deal over the winter, so he'll be a free agent. I don't expect him to return, but hey, I never thought I'd see him in the organization again and was wrong last winter. - Roch
This just in.... The Cubs designated Ryan Freel for assignment.
Roch,
This is good news. The Os are no longer the quickest way to the majors for a minor league pitcher.

Halama always reminded me of Billy Bob Thornthon physically. I remember him being o.k. with Oakland though.
Halama has been pitching for the southern maryland blue crabs the last couple of years and has been there best pitcher. Glad to see him doing well. I hope arrieta out pitches him tonight.
Wow, Hamala seems like a loong time ago.Bit if remember corectly Hamala is a lefty which might explin him sticking around. The Areos are a pretty good team, I just wonder how they're not feeding the big club with many players.
Why not work out a trade?? I mean, he wasn't horrible!
WAY TO GO ANDREW!
Way to expand Dominican scouting and then sign NO ONE, especially a talented prospect. What exactly are we paying for down there? Sugar and fruit?
Oh that's right, we signed the JENNY CRAIG high school player of the year.
All is well. The budget is balanced and the Kool Aid drinkers think we have a presence in the Dominican Republic.
I hope you made par at Pebble Beach. I heard the 18th can be a bit tough.
Googled Halama and found that the Orioles were his last(2006) ML team, he played for eight. If nothing else he has been consistent throughout his ML career. His WHIP from 1999 thru 2005 was 1.35 to 1.54. He is 37 years old. Shoulda been left-handed.
what's the big deal? it's not like the Orioles need pitching or anything!!!
Thanx Roch, You da man! We and MASN are fortunate to have you. Keep on keeping fella because we appreciate you.

Thanks. Very nice to hear, and much appreciated. - Roch
Can't say I blame Livingston for looking for a better opportunity. I don't think the Orioles organization treated him poorly by any means but with all the pitchers moving up in the organization since the beginning of the year, he was likely disappointed that he was still in Double A (despite having a Triple A trial earlier this year). He is a player with big league experience after all.
That being said, he's a soft tosser with 4-A stuff and he gave up on an organization that was willing to give him a chance last winter. I don't make it a habit to root against any player but I'm not about to root for a guy who gave up on the Orioles in a seemingly frivolous fashion. This may look like a better way for him today but it could also come back to haunt him. My guess is Livingston's future big-league dreams will likely go unfulfilled.
Irrational complaints about a GM is one thing, but the "Jenny Craig" and related comments about a 17-year old make me sick. I won't be the slightest bit surprised when some of your supposedly superior pitching prospects that were drafted after Hobgood and signed for more money go down with major arm injuries. Did you ever consider how that factors into draft decisions? And how picking an immensely talented kid with a bit less pre-draft exposure could easily be the much smarter decision, since his arm has been less abused?
Sounds good. The Tribe needs whatever pitching they can get right now. Having sent Carmona to rookie league in AZ to get his sh...tuff together, and today they traded John Meloan to the Rays for Winston Abreu (who knew he was no longer playing in Japan? not me!).
I wonder what I can fetch on eBay for my Video Decapitation of Livingston warming up in Toledo last month...
