Q & A with Morgan
New centerfielder and lead-off man Nyjer Morgan celebrated his 29th birthday on Thursday. Today, he celebrates a new beginning, one he couldn't be happier about.
Morgan was acquired from Pittsburgh, along with left-hander Sean Burnett on Tuesday for reliever Joel Hanrahan and outfielder Lastings Milledge.
Morgan talked to the media prior to tonight's game and spoke about his new team, playing hockey and the clubhouse.
"I was excited and flattered," he said. "It's a good thing when somebody wants you. I opened a lot of eyes and it was one of my goals when I came into pro ball was to open up teams' eyes and that's what I did and I just want to keep bringing the excitement and keep playing hard."
There were a lot of guys in Pittsburg that were upset that you got traded. There are a lot of good guys over there and they are definitely going to miss me. What I bring, the excitement and in the clubhouse and hopefully I can bring it here and I'll understand a few more players and then I can be myself.
You felt like you had something going and you were building something pretty good in Pittsburg.
Oh yeah. Honestly, I thought they were going to keep me and [Andrew] McCutchen together for a little bit, but I guess it didn't work out, it's a business and im definitely glad to be over here I'll tell you that.
How much does the hockey background help you with baseball?
A lot. Just probably the grind and that's about it. Two different games. You have to tone down the intensity out here, but for me the intensity is what got me here so I keep bringing it every day.
How did get into hockey growing up in northern California?
Just watching the 1988 Olympics in Calgary and I told my dad I want to play, went to the local signups and started from there. It was definitely tough in San Jose where I'm from.
What do you think of the home clubhouse?"Oh it's the sh*t. I thought we had a nice one in PNC Park, but this right here is pretty top notch."

"Oh it's the sh*t."
He has quickly become one of my favorite NL guys. :) That's just all kinds of awesome, even if I'm trying to give up swearing for Lent, er, July.

At first I thought the questions was kind of silly, until he gave the answer. He's a funny dude. He'll bring good chemistry to the clubhouse
