Roberts: The next day
Brian Roberts led off the game with a home run, staking Rich Hill to a 1-0 lead.
We can only hope it keeps getting better from here.
I caught part of manager Dave Trembley's pre-game session with the media while I sat in the MASN studio in Hunt Valley. Ah, the magic of television. Trembley said he doesn't believe that Roberts is injured, and that the second baseman accepts responsibility for letting "other factors" affect him.
Roberts also told Trembley that he feels as though he's letting the team down, and promised that we'll all see a better approach from him. Trembley, in turn, said he's spoken to Roberts about improving his focus.
"I just know he can play better," Trembley said.
We all do. We've seen it.
Also, Cesar Itzuris will fly back to Baltimore tomorrow and report to Double-A Bowie on Tuesday. He'll play shortstop and bat leadoff for two games, and the Orioles are expected to activate him from the disabled list on Friday.
Trembley didn't give Jason Berken a ringing endorsement as a starter. But asked if he had a more viable option to replace the rookie, Trembley replied, "I don't believe I do."
That means Chris Tillman isn't packing his bags for Baltimore. Not yet.
Tillman is on deck, but he's not on the next flight. It still could be a while.
The Orioles could option Berken when Izturis comes off the disabled list, since his next turn falls on the off-day and then we hit the break. The Orioles don't need five starters.

Man, Roberts is playing out of his mind today.
"Other factors"? Hmmm, the plot thickens.
Just like I said Roberts is a true professional and let last night not get him down and has come out with a homerun, double and stolen base. Maybe he will go for the cycle today.
Well i am glad that i am not the only one that thought brian lost focus. When you sign a huge contact and come from a baseball background you shouldn't have to be told about it.He is not letting the team down he is letting himself down and that lack of focus or whatever you want to call it is really rubbing off on Nick, which should never happen.
Good to know Roberts can just turn it on when he wants. Now we just have to find a way to keep him interested in baseball. How can we do that? Offer a big contract? Fly him around in first class? Give him an intelligent and trusting manager? A model wife? A pingpong playing best friend? What can we do?
But can he catch a pop up?
Roch,
Read the recent suggestions that Tillman might be the next callup......any idea why Troy Patton wouldn't be considered be fore him? Troy has past Majors experience and is older.

Tillman is pitching better. - Roch
IMPLOSION!
Roch- There is one glaring difference when comparing how the Orioles are handling certain prospects, and how other teams handle certain prospects. Kershaw, Hernandez, and SO many others, are here. Tillman is not. The difference is the O's lose and the other teams win.
Pheww, Wieters bailed out the golden boy. Clutch HR.
It sounds like the kind of conversation that needed to take place. Their conversation had more in it than DT will let us know, but that's ok.
The results speak for themselves. Taking a couple of pitches before swinging helps alot, too.
You mean the Orioles are making this a competitive game? You know Dummie_Oriole hates that!!
