This Weekend in NatsTown
There is nothing like enjoying the national pastime on the 4th of July in the nation's capital. It's truly a unique experience -- one that fans missed out on last year in the inaugural season at Nationals Park. This year, though, fans can enjoy both a Nationals game and D.C.'s famous 4th of July fireworks all in the same day.
On Saturday, the first 20,000 fans will receive mini American flags to wave throughout the game. And, to honor our brave military men and women, the Nationals donated 2,400 tickets to military families and wounded veterans for this weekend's series.
Tune in to Nats Xtra at 12:30 p.m. for a special tribute to Lou Gehrig as part of the 4-ALS Initiative in Major League Baseball. Former Governor George Allen will talk about his work with ALS. Nats reliever Joe Beimel will introduce the lineup.
Sunday is - as always - Family Fun Day with pregame autographs, the Family Fun Ticket package and Kids Run the Bases. The organization will also host the Dream Foundation's 2nd Annual Children's Day benefiting the Children's National Medical Center. Four tickets to see the Jonas Brothers in concert at the Verizon Center on Monday, July 13, plus meet and greet passes will be auctioned off during the game, with proceeds benefiting the Diabetes Care Complex. Fans may also text "NATS" to 90999 to make a $5 donation through their cell phone provider.
On Sunday, tune in to Nats Xtra at 12:35 p.m. for a talk with Phil Wood and a special visit with guests from the Cal Ripken Senior Baseball League to preview their upcoming All Star Game on MASN.
Also on Sunday, fans will learn which Nationals will be heading to St. Louis for the All Star Game. The 2009 All-Star Game Selection Show will air on TBS from 1-2 p.m. and reveal 32 of the 33 spots for each roster. After the show, a four-day 2009 All-Star Game Sprint Final Vote will give fans the opportunity to add the last star to both rosters.
Both games this weekend will be on MASN and MASN HD.
