Tonight's pitchers: Berken vs. O'Sullivan
RHP Jason Berken (1-5, 6.44) tonight will make his 8th start of this season, his 3rd on the road and the 1st of his career vs. the Angels.
Berken took the loss Monday at home vs. Boston. In five innings he gave up eight hits and four runs, throwing 99 pitches. The O's are just 2-5 when Berken has started.
Berken's first two starts: 3ER in 12IP............2.25 ERA
Berken's last five starts: 23ER in 24 2/3IP.....8.39 ERA
In 36 1/3 innings on the year, Berken has allowed 45 hits with 14 walks and 22 strikeouts. Right-handed batters hit .265 off him and lefties bat .329.
The sixth-round pick in 2006 out of Clemson, made 66 career starts in the O's minors and went 25-18, 3.74 over 375 innings.
RHP Sean O'Sullivan (2-0, 3.00) tonight will make his 4th Major League start of this season and the 1st of his career vs. the Orioles.
O'Sullivan won his big league debut, June 16th vs. San Francisco, when he gave up just one run over seven innings. In his next start, he gave up three runs in five innings vs. Colorado. In his last start, he allowed six hits and two runs over six frames vs. Texas.
The 21-year-old O'Sullivan has given up an average of .306 vs. right-handed hitters and just .194 vs. lefties. When he has pitched with runners in scoring position he has not allowed any hits in 13 at bats. The Angels have won all three of his starts.
He has been tough early in his starts, not allowing any runs in the first two innings. Opponent batters are just 4 for 21 (.190) in the opening innings against him.
In ten starts earlier this year at Triple-A Salt Lake City, O'Sullivan went 5-2, 6.02. Last year he was one of their top minor league pitchers, going 16-8, 4.73 at Rancho Cucamongo.
