Welcoming new Nats and wishing rain delays away
| | Comments (0)

Bucc-ing the System
The newest members of the Nationals, former Pittsburgh Pirates OF Nyjer Morgan and LHP Sean Burnett, began their day on Wednesday at 4:00 a.m. in Pittsburgh and made it to Miami in time for the Nats' finale in Florida against the Marlins.

Burnett admitted he was a bit excited in his Washington debut but he was able to settle down and contribute. He's been working on a slider that is effective against lefties.

Morgan will likely leadoff and start in centerfield on Friday against the Braves. He told me he thinks the Nats have a lot of talent and he's looking forward to playing for them. He described himself as someone who has a lot of energy and works hard.

Rizzo says player makeup is vital to a winner
Acting GM Mike Rizzo emphasized this week that character is a vital ingredient to building a championship club. He said the team really did its homework on Morgan and Burnett and he added that both players were known for having very good makeup.

Rain, rain...Go Away!
With Wednesday afternoon's 19-minute rain delay, the Nats have now had 15 games interupted by Mother Nature for a total of 1665 total minutes or 27 hours and 45 minutes.
