Power Ranking, Reimold and Hobgood
Monday: Power Rankings, Albers getting better | Tuesday: Izturis on the mend | Wednesday: Uehara out two months with elbow injury | Thursday: Could Sherrill be traded?
Friday, July 3:
Steve Melewski writes about the O's plans for Matt Hobgood: "It is going to be about two and a half weeks before O's first-round draft pick Matt Hobgood pitches in a game for Bluefield of the Appalachian League.
The O's will have Hobgood go through a throwing progression where he starts with long toss, advances to throw bullpen sessions, then throws batting practice to hitters and eventually works in a simulated game.
Then, sometime around July 20th, he'll be ready to take the mound for the first time as a pro." [masnsports.com]
Jeff Zrebiec says Nolan Reimold was named June's Rookie of the Month: "Orioles outfielder Nolan Reimold has been voted the American League Rookie of the Month for June.
Reimold, 25, hit .320 (24-for-75) in 26 June games and had four home runs, nine RBIs, 13 runs scored and 13 walks. He had a .520 slugging percentage, a .420 on-base percentage and six multi-hit games. The Orioles left fielder reached base safely in 30 of 72 plate appearances from June 9 to June 30 and has reached base safely in 36 of his past 43 games." [Baltimore Sun]
Jayson Stark spoke with a scout about Brad Bergesen: ""He's an underrated guy. He throws strikes. He fields his position. He's aggressive. He works fast. He commands three pitches. He's always been very durable. There are a lot of intangibles with this guy that make him better than his stuff would indicate on the surface."" [ESPN.com]
Tim Brown ranks the O's No. 23 in his power poll: "Rally from nine runs back against Red Sox really very exciting. Rally from 13 games back looks like it might come up a little short." [Yahoo! Sports]
