Zimmermann's day
Jordan Zimmermann was cruising along, giving up three hits and an unearned run thru six innings, but he became unraveled in the seventh.
He had Geoff Blum 0-2 before hitting him on the foot. Hunter Pence followed with a single. Two batters later, Kaz Matsui hit a three-run homer that just cleared the wall in right field, giving the Astros a 4-0 lead.
A four-pitch walk to the pitcher followed the home run and Zimmermann's day is over. He gave up five hits, three walks while striking out six in 6 1/3 innings.
Zimmermann had trouble throwing first-pitch strikes today as he got ahead of only 13 of the 27 batters he faced.
The Nationals offense didn't help Zimmermann out at all today. The have eight hits, but twice left the bases loaded.
