Zimmermann's solid day
Right-hander Jordan Zimmermann notched his second straight and fifth quality start of the season.
Zimmermann cruised thru the Marlins lineup the first time around, but the Marlins got to him on the second go-around.
With two outs and two strikes on the lead-off batter, Zimmermann gave up a single to Chris Goghlan. The same happened to the No. 2 hitter Emilio Bonifacio.
Hanley Ramirez, who owns the Nats, then doubled home both runners to give the Marlins the 2-1 lead.
Zimmermann gave up six his, struck out six and walked one. He threw 100 pitches, 74 for strikes; a great ratio and got nine fly balls outs to just one on the ground.
He threw first-pitch strikes to 15 of the 24 batters he faced.
Former Marlin Josh Willingham's bases loaded, two-run single put the Nationals on top 3-2. Zimmermann is the pitcher of record and if the bullpen, it's a big if, can hold the lead, Zimmermann will win his second straight start.
