Roster move
Tonight's attendance: 18,460
The Orioles have optioned reliever Matt Albers to Triple-A Norfolk and recalled pitcher Kam Mickolio.
Albers has allowed 17 runs in his last six innings. Manager Dave Trembley said he's convinced that Albers is healthy and just needs to work on his delivery and become a ground ball pitcher again.
Mickolio hasn't allowed a run in 4 2/3 innings with the Orioles. He's 3-3 with a 3.50 ERA in 35 games with the Tides, walking 16 and striking out 52 in 43 2/3 innings. He's recorded at least one strikeout in 27 of 35 games. Right-handers are batting .211 against him, and lefties are hitting .191.
The Orioles will announce another roster move, most likely involving first baseman Michael Aubrey, before tomorrow night's game.

Roch,
Jacobson was drafted last year. Does he need to go on the 40 man roster?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No. He's only in Single-A. - Roch
Good im glad that Albers is going down because lately he has been giving up run after run after run ect...
Roch do you think it will be Hughes or Aubrey coming up to play first?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As I wrote in the "My prediction" entry, Aubrey. - Roch
Roch, refresh us on how did we get Aubrey, Michael?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Acquired from Indians for PTBNL earlier this year. - Roch
Maybe Aubrey can be a pleasant surprise. No one expects him to succeed at this level except maybe himself.
Seems to be a hitter with a decent glove. Limited power. Would be good if we could find someone in house to bridge the time till Snyder is fully ripe.
Roch-
What about the Snyder rumors? He is up to 280ish.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What Snyder rumors? - Roch
great work today, roch!! thanks ROCH'DREW!!!
So, um Roch,
Who's the PTBNL in the Michael Aubrey deal?
jdb: I’ve known since before you even posted that you were going to be great. Good question about switch hitters. I know Michael Young stopped doing it in the minors, and that Bernie Williams started in the minors. I’m sure there are others who stop at some point, although rarely in the majors. Seems to me that most people not named Mantle or Murray have much better power and/or average numbers from one side. Those two were pretty rare.
Basemonkey: Really nice commentary about Wieters’ development. Thanks for the perspective.
Chas: I think a ham sandwich would have been plenty, and we actually got a ham sandwich with the potential to be a club, plus we got someone to pay the rest of Huff’s salary (around 2 million). Not a bad return for six weeks of a first baseman who can’t run (sheets, where did you get your numbers?), is a below average fielder (UZR/150= -1.6), and this year is a weak hitter (87 OPS+). That's what gets you a negative WAR, as a wise man posted here.
jeffChill: Yes, Gregg Zaun returned a better prospect than Aubrey, as well he should have. Gregg’s significantly cheaper, believe it or not his offensive numbers this year (OPS+=91) were a tad better than Aubrey’s (OPS+=87), and he plays the hardest defensive position, while Aubrey plays the easiest.
Sheets: Thanks for bringing up the fact that so many missed, i.e. that Aubrey cleared waivers. If you hadn’t, I would have.
Terpfan: Win or lose I feel exactly the same way about Amber, although I’m not sure I realized it until I read your hilarious comment.
BC Mike: So are you trying to tell us that you think the team with seven .300 hitters is probably going to score more runs than the team with one? Is that what you’re driving at? I guess CA figured they could only get away with a contract as disastrous as Matthews' if they had seven much better players ahead of him in the lineup. I wish the O's could do the same thing. Huff and Mora wouldn't have looked nearly as bad batting eighth and ninth.
Goodbye Aubrey! You gave us one good year and you made life around here more interesting. Thanks too for the nice words on the way out. You've had an off year, but you're a decent player. Unfortunately you play a position where the O's need someone who's much, much better if they hope to compete in the AL East. Let's hope they find him.
Everything I've read compares Mike Aubrey to Sean Casey. Do you think that's a fair comp? Any idea good Hughes is defensively?
Duffy, Hughes was once voted best defensive 1B in his league (Florida State) which happened to be the same year he led that league in hitting. Seems to be great at picks on throws from the infielders.
