Hoiles keeping busy
I know some readers were concerned when former Orioles catcher Chris Hoiles abruptly resigned as manager of the independent York Revolution, but he's doing fine. His health is great and he's excited about a new business venture.
Hoiles and veteran sports executive Adam Gladstone have formed a sporting events management company called "The Hoiles-Gladstone Group (HGG)," which will provide opportunties for outdoor enthusiasts to interact with various sports stars from the past and present.
The activities will range from hunting and fishing trips to managing youth sports camps.
The first event, "Bows, Bucks & Birds", will take place from October 21-25 and consist of a hunting trip with Hoiles, Will Clark, Ben McDonald and Jamie Walker at North Fork Lodge on more than 7,000 acres of wilderness in Pennsylvania.
Nick Markakis was interested in participating, but his delayed honeymoon conflicted with the trip. Maybe next time.
A similar trip is scheduled for the first week of December.
I talked to Hoiles about this project earlier in the summer, and I'll have more details tomorrow.
The group launched its website today, www.HGGSports.com. Click on the name and check it out.

will matuez and tillman still be rookies next year or did they pitch to many innings?

Matusz yes, Tillman no. - Roch
As we get all psyched up about the future of the Birds here's how a national sportsperson sees us right now...
Let's be honest: they'd still suck outside the AL East. They'd suck in the NL Central and in the AFC North and in the Premiership. They'd suck in mixed doubles and on the shuffleboard pitch. They just suck. This is as immutable a truth as the oceans and sky above.
To the Trolls,
"Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?"
A cookie for whoever can tell us where this quote comes from.

Hoiles if my all time favorite catcher
I'd be concerned that Hoiles would quit 3/4 through the trip like he did with the Revolution.
A hunting trip with Chris Hoiles, Will Clark, Ben MacDonald and Jamie Walker. Sounds like the set-up for some sort of reality show. Through in Tila Tequila and I'm sure VH1 would air it.
I wanted to add my 2 cents on the measuring issues (HRs) at the Yawn. Hell guys, it's only about 290 Ft to that scoreboard. There might be another 70 Ft from that to the fence behind it. 400 Ft should get you well onto Eutaw St.

With that crowd, armed, I fully expect someone to get the VP Cheney treatment....
"The Hoiles-Gladstone Group (HGG)"
Roch,
Clever name; it bears the mark of a seasoned wordsmith. Admit it -- you helped create it. I especially like the "HGG."
Do you think they would consider a gator hunt with Ben McDonald during spring training?
Seriously, this has the feel of a winner. I'm not a hunter, but if I were, I would already be registered. Fellow students, check out the web site -- this outing is very cool; you not only hunt with these guys, but you get to watch playoff baseball with them at night!!!
On top of that, the after-hunt food and drink stylings of Chef Famous James should be enough to leave you with fond memories.
He was so nice. I mentioned last year how Cris would let the bull pen catcher room with him on the road [ the left handed guy ] so he could room 1st. class. Something like that.
Hope Walker can shoot straighter than he can throw.
This looks like it could go places. Good luck to Chris and his partner in this venture.
Always liked Hoiles...
Oddball, Kelly's Heroes.
Did I hear correctly that Jamie Walker would like to honor a commentator to the blogs who has been quite focused on him by changing the name to the first event to "Bows, Bucks, Birds, and Bob?"
