Mickolio to DL
For the Rays:
Bartlett SS
Crawford LF
Longoria 3B
Zobrist 2B
Burrell DH
Aybar 1B
Kapler RF
Navarro C
Perez CF
Davis RHP
The Orioles placed reliever Kam Mickolio on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Sept. 7, with inflammation in his right shoulder. He'll stay with the club through the homestand before returning home.
Manager Dave Trembley said the club didn't make the move so it could transfer Mickolio to the 60-day DL and bring up a non-roster pitcher. No plans are in the works to add someone else to the bullpen.
"We don't have anybody who's taking the light rail," Trembley said. "We don't have anyone hidden in the Sheraton down here."
Chris Tillman is scheduled to make "at least two more starts," according to Trembley, beginning with Monday's game in Toronto. There's only room for three more starts before the season ends.

Roch,
So, what's the point of the DL? I don't get it.

I guess if he isn't going to pitch, just send him home. And putting him on the DL makes it a little easier. Or...ah...that's all I've got. - Roch
OK, explain to me then why is it necessary to move Mickolio to the DL if they are not going to bring up another player? Does it have something to do with accumulated service time? Or just so they can say, "See - we had this many lost days to injury!" Or what? (Because I don't really believe the team feels the need to say that, no matter what Brummie might argue.)
Mikilio definitely seems like a success story for 2009 despite his injuries of late. Im hope its just from overuse and not something serious. He should be a huge part of our bullpen next year.
Putting someone on the 15 DL in September is worthless unless you transfer him to the 60 and call someone up. See Jones, Adam. Either Trembley is not being honest, or he is out of the loop. Or did they just put Kam on the DL for the extra paperwork?
Pete - I didn't think of that. They could be doing it just to piss off the folks in the league office who have to take care of filing the documents when they'd rather just be following the pennant races or their fantasy football teams at this time of year.
