Luke update
| | Comments (18)

Luke Scott apparently was in the original lineup today, but had to be scratched because of a strained muscle in his left foot.

Scott is considered day-to-day, which I've learned through the years means he could return tomorrow night or be shut down.

Scott was removed from last night's game in the eighth inning because of discomfort in the foot, making him the latest outfielder to go down. Lou Montanez is starting in left field tonight, and Ty Wigginton is serving as the designated hitter, two spots where you'd usually find Scott with a right-hander on the mound.

Well, not at the same time. Either left or DH. But you probably figured that out, so I'll shut up.

Roch, Is Justin Turner hurt or something? I thought he'd get a little more action now that we are out of the wild card.

I haven't heard about any injuries. - Roch

roch the o's have lost 13 in a row. there are 4 games left in the season. ya think it matters that we have more right handed hitters in the line up than usual? i'll watch when wieters comes to the plate and than its back to watching the caps play.

Schoolman,
I hope I am the first to wish you a Happy Rochtober.

I wish even more that I thought of it without an assist; but I just watched the top of the ninth at Coors as the Rockies clinched the wild card -- Coors is decorated with a huge banner welcoming everyone to "Rocktober."

Argh, I regret to inform those who shall be in attendance on Saturday, that I can no longer make it. The GF has to make an appearance for her company at the USMC 10k or whatever it is in DC at 6AM Sunday. Plans got rearranged and I'm going to have to stay in DC Saturday night...Ah such is life with geographically undesirable relationships. Not that SHE's undesirable lol as both Roch and potentially B_O can attest (if he was really at Sliders that day?)

On another note, looks like I'm moving to DC around the New Year and we're looking to move to Charm City in May(ish) so I'll be making many appearances next year at the Yard.

Let's hope, wish and pray that Waters can do to the Rays what he did to the Angels last year. He only pitched THE best game of the year for the Birds last year, shocking I know.

Well thank God he didn't get hurt here in Cleveland. My conscience can't take much more of this.
Crap. I wonder if my parents were at the game, though. Crappity crap crap crap.

All this talk about letting Dave Trembley go, but how come no one's calling for Richie Bancells' head? Is there any team in baseball that consistently fills its infirmary in September the way we do? I'm half-joking here, but good Lord, this does happen every year. Are we cursed, or what?

if they shut down scott, is there going to be a need for someone else to come up for the Jays series?

They can probably get by for three more games, but that's only because Andino can move to the OF in an emergency. Not ideal, for sure, but do-able. - Roch

Justin Turner came in second place (to Luke Scott) in the team's "Who Wants to be Hurt Next" contest. Look for a Friday night hammy pull.

Tracy said:

amarie, maybe we can relocate you to the visitor's dugout at Camden Yards! See if we can't have you put the reverse curse on their best opposing players. Nothing serious... maybe just a couple hangnails or bad case of jock itch, something along those lines.

Poor Luke! He's really not making a great case for himself next season. In 2009 he's proven that he can take the term "streaky hitter" to the utmost extreme AND that he's apparently alergic to left field. How do you strain a muscle in your foot, anyhow? That sounds almost as bad as when Bedard missed a start for Seattle because he had a butt cramp.

Hi Roch,

I can't remember who it was, but a few posts ago someone made a comment about how loyal fans are leaving the O's and there are more loyal fans threatening to leave also.

I wanted to put my 2 cents in to say that if a fan is leaving a team because they lose, they are NOT loyal fans....they are fair weather fans. I think we have too many fair weather fans in Baltimore and not enough loyal fans.

As a truly loyal fan that will never stop being an O's fan whether they win or lose, I want to thank you Roch for helping us through hard times.

Oriole's Forever!!!

Roch, when you get around to watching the Big Lebowski, make sure you go into it with appreciation of the Cohen Brothers style. Its hilarious to people who can appreciate a good Diaglogue movie, and because of its brilliant dialogue, its fantastic. Its not your average comedy. Might just the thing to boost your spirits after this month. Re-charge your bloggin batteries. Were going to need you this offseason nice and healthy. We cant have you day to day!

I do appreciate their style. I'm more inclined to appreciate smart, witty dialogue. Love a movie a can quote over and over. - Roch

Johnny...after 13 years of losing, coupled with an owner who blames the losing on the rolving manager door and not himself...fans finally get fed up. The owner leaves leaves them no other choice but accept losing or move on.
Cant say I blame the fans who are moving on. A person can only take so much. Leaving isnt be a fair weather fan....it is more like reaching the end of the line with patience.

Is the world coming to an end? The O's are up 3-0...........with Waters pitching.

BMS: Don't move to DC. It's a dump with no attitude. B-More is a far superior city and you can use the MARC to get to DC.

Jack said:

Can someone enlighten me on why Mora is in this lineup? We are cutting ties with him and need to get others in there.

Ramon said:

Roch,
Do the O's staff look at history vs. certain pitchers before making out the line up?Mora is 1-18 coming into tonight's game off Garza.Make that 1-19.Do you think they are playing for the 2nd draft slot or is Trembley just that clueless?1-19 is not going to help you end a 13 game losing streak.Does it really matter this late in season any way.I'm pretty sure Trembley's fate has already been decided. I want to see the youngsters play!!!

bms said:

Ok wasn't going to say anything but then Zobrist homers AGAIN. Waters looks good. Kudos to him so far. GO deep man. (jokes unnecessary, B_O may get upset about the language.)

bms said:

Crap, Zobrist robs Wieters, that guy kills us.

Thanks for your concern B_O, but I lived in and around DC for 10 years before I came back down here, GMU alum.

But yes the goal is after the lease ends to move to B'More, in May. Already bidding on some houses very, very close to OPACY.

Johnny C said:

Jack....you bring up an interesting point. I never thought I would see myself typing this, but you are right.

My appologies to every fan on here....anyone who was indeed a fair weather fan would have been gone 12 years ago after the first losing season.

I still maintain though, that the definition of loyal (according to Merriam-Websters website) is "unswerving in allegiance." Meaning that no front office, or manager revolving door would make them leave the team that they are a fan of.
