Roberts named MVO
| | Comments (8)

Brian Roberts has been named Most Valuable Oriole for the second time, beating out Nick Markakis. Adam Jones was third.

Roberts also won it in 2005.

Markakis is the only other player to receive a first-place vote. Brad Bergesen, Cesar Izturis and Nolan Reimold also received votes from the media that covers the team.

Hey guys - how hard is it to figure out WHICH O's players wanted a change of managers?? Just do the process of elimination. You can eliminate ALL the rookies - they wouldn't have a reason, YET, to want and or say they want Dave gone. So not our catcher, not our first baseman/men, not Brian Roberts who said he wanted Dave back, Izturis is the quiet shy 1st year guy so x him off Mora, YA THINK??????? Not Markakis, not Jones, not Pie, not Riemhold, probably not Luke Scott. Wigginton - OH YEAH, almot for sure! Then we are into the pitchers, again not likely any Rookies so PROBABLY Bass who seems to have an attitude most of the time. Not Hendrickson 'cause he WANTS to come back. I don't see Johnson as suckie as he has been. not likely Castillo Maybe Albers blames trembly for his up and downs to the farm. So if I'm bettin it's Mora for sure, Wiggy almost for sure and probably Bass with 50/50 on Albers. There ya go! Let's just pray Trems grows a pair and starts TELLING players that HE is the manager and not them and to steal when he says and for cripes sake learn how to bunt (I say again, for the love of God why don't they HIRE a bunt specialist/teacher and teach these million $ Prima Donna HOW TO bunt??) Dave for sure needs to lose the tell them in advance when they are going to play BS and let them look at the lineup and if you are in go get 'em and if not sit down and shut up unless you get pointed at!! Letting Mora tell him off and then giving in to him at the expense of seeing other/new talent get the playing time almost and probably should have cost him his job. Dave needs to be a tough, stern no nonsense father figure not a warm Uncle to the Mora's and such. If the kids in the hall are getting out of hand and about to make his head explode open the door and tell them to quiet down or move out!! Are you the MAN or are you the mouse??

Probably the least worst option and a natural selection give the struggles of everyone else and the fact that B-Rob is about to become the most senior Oriole on the team.

Me? I would have given it to the fans.

who as voting?
Nick Marakis should off won it.

I think Brian definitely deserves it. Especially for hi fielding and graciousness and humility when he broke the doubles record.

Agree completely with the choice. It's been a tough year, he has been one of the reasonably consistent bright spots. I hope his reward is some post-season play within the next 2 years....

Good for Roberts. Statistically he's the right choice. I presume everyone who favors DT coming back would have gone with Jones (or Sherrill or huff) since their absence is the justification for the collapse. That means jones was the reason the team was at least respectable in the first half.

Whoever voted for Izturis deserves to be fired.

How can you justify voting for a guy who needed 6 hits in the last couple games just to get over a .600 OPS?!?!

I don't care how good his defense is (and it's certainly not good enough to make up for how poorly he's hit), you can't expect to win in today's game when you have a black hole in your lineup (especially when it's in the 2-hole at times, no less).

He's not Belanger, and even if he were, it's a different world in today's game.

Congrats to Brian on the great year he has had and winning the award! Although I'm sure we would take a better record over personal achievement. Keep it up Brian set a good example for all the young guys on the team in the years to come.
