Some player thoughts on Trembley
| | Comments (1)

As O's fans await word on whether Dave Trembley will return as manager, a couple of O's pitchers hope he returns. One is a veteran, another a rookie.

"Every manager is a leader and someone that sets a tone," Jeremy Guthrie said. "He gets a team through the tough times. He's done a tremendous job, Dave cares about us and first and foremost, as a player, that's what you have to have.

"You can build off of that. To me, Dave means even more. When I was released by the Indians, he and a few others made phone calls for the O's to take a chance on me.

"Being with Dave, he's probably given me more slack and rope than some other pitchers over these three years. Some times I've earned that and other times I've failed in that regard.

"Manager is an important role. Sometimes they take too much of the blame. As he's gone through these struggles, he's hurt for himself, but he's hurt because the team struggled."

Rookie Chris Tillman had some thoughts on the skipper.

"He's been unbelievable for the young guys. His main thing is making us more comfortable. He did a great job with that. He always wants to make it easier on us. He's been great with the younger players.

"He's very approachable, with some guys you can be a little intimidated. My first spring here, he made a point to say it's about being comfortable here. I have no problem going up to him with any question whatsoever."

Well, let's all hold hands and skip through the daisy field. Just kidding!

I don't think Trembley is a great manager, just a decent one. He has definitely made some questionable moves, and I'd like to have a manager with a more established "winning attitude". That said, I think he needs to come back next year for some continuity and he does seem to help the young players develop.

However, if the Orioles don't spend some serious $$ in free agency this offseason, they will be lucky to keep half of the 10,000 fans they have right now. Seriously, I came back to Maryland and went to the Monday night Tampa Bay game about 3 weeks ago and there could not have been more than 5,000 people actually there. It was so depressing and pathetic.
